There is no shortage of powerful characters inOne Piecewho have used their strength to spread their influence, and the Gorosei are no exception. To the common people, they are the leaders of the World Government, making them the most important individuals in the world.

The Gorosei were introduced hundreds of chapters ago in the story, but there was little to no information available regarding their past. As theOne Piecemanga moved into its final phase, Oda finally decided to lift the curtain on these mysteries.

The History of The Gorosei

The Gorosei’s history is largely unknown, and that is obviously because it is tied to bigger things. Oda is withholding this information for good reasons, and fans can rest assured that it won’t be long before they finally learn about the history of these five individuals. There are many who believe that the Gorosei might actually belong to the original 20 familiesof the World Government. Of course, this is merely speculation right now, but it would make a lot of sense if the Gorosei were from those families. It is possible that the five most loyal families chose to serve Imu through the generations. It is also likely that Imu chose the five representatives personally, as he didn’t want another blunder to happen. Whether the families have been replaced after every generation or the same five continue to serve Imu to this day is unclear.

Another big mystery surrounding the Gorosei is whether they have been alive for the same number of years as Imu or whether they are the descendants of the five families. There is a strong possibility that they are also immortal, but that would have required five different people willing to sacrifice themselves for the Immortality Surgery ofthe Ope Ope no Mi. While the odds are low, it isn’t entirely impossible. There is a chance that the Devil Fruit was in the possession of the World Government. According to Doflamingo, he could have controlled the world if he had the Ope Ope no Mi. This adds more fuel to the speculation that it belonged to the Gorosei, but somehow it ended up in the hands of Diez Barrels. Eventually, it was consumed by Trafalgar Law, who is a member of the D family. As fans already knowOne Pieceplaces a great deal of focus on fate, and the Devil Fruit changing hands may be linked to it.

The Power of The Gorosei

The Gorosei have been confirmed to be Devil Fruit users. While the nature of their abilities remains unknown, it seems that all five of themhave Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruits. Keeping in mind that they are the rarest type of Devil Fruits, it makes sense for the Gorosei to have them. One of the silhouettes looked like a massive bird. So far, the only mythical bird used in the series is the phoenix. There is no shortage of mythical birds, and Aethon is one of the most suitable candidates. Aethon was the tormentor of Prometheus, the Titan who had stolen fire from the heavens and given it to the people. Due to his transgression, Zeus punished Prometheus by chaining him to a mountain, where Aethon tore away at the Titan’s flesh. The Gorosei are of a similar mindset, as they don’t want people to learn about certain things about the World Government.

Another silhouette had horns and a broad face. The Minotaur would have been the first guess of most fans, but Oda already introduced onein the Impel Down arc. It is possible that the Devil Fruit might be dedicated to Buchis, from Egyptian mythology. Buchis was said to be the favorite reincarnation of the god of war. It had hair growing on the opposite end, and it changed color every hour. Another Devil Fruit user has massive tusks, which implies that it may be a mythological creature resembling an elephant. The shadows of other Devil Fruit transformations were extremely vague, making it difficult to make a proper guess.

Their Roles

Each member of the Gorosei has been given a specific responsibility, and they oversee a particular department. The first one, St. Jaygarcia Saturn, is the Godhead of science and defense. Given his role, Jaygarcia Saturn knows Vegapunk and closely monitors every invention that he makes. The second Gorosei, St. Marcus Mars, has complete dominion over all issues pertaining to the environment. Moving on, St. Topman Warcury handles all things related to justice. So, it is possible that he has a hand in everything that goes on in Enies Lobby.

St. Ethan Baron V. Nusjuro is the Godhead of finance. He likely sets the budget for any projectthat the World Governmentwants to invest in. Finally, St. Shepherd Ju Peter oversees the agriculture department. Even though the Gorosei have roles that do not involve combative skills, they are equipped to handle all kinds of situations. It is possible that their Devil Fruits might be linked to their role within the World Government, but at the moment there is no evidence to confirm it.

The Five Elders from One Piece

Aside from their roles as the Godheads, the Gorosei’s main goal is to protect the identity of Imu, the true sovereign of the world. The Gorosei carry out all of Imu’s orders, no matter how outlandish they are. This is a sign of their undying trust in the enigmatic individual. Why the Gorosei serve Imu remains unclear, but Oda will certainly address this question in the final saga.
