The History of The Gorosei
The Gorosei’s history is largely unknown, and that is obviously because it is tied to bigger things. Oda is withholding this information for good reasons, and fans can rest assured that it won’t be long before they finally learn about the history of these five individuals. There are many who believe that the Gorosei might actually belong to the original 20 familiesof the World Government. Of course, this is merely speculation right now, but it would make a lot of sense if the Gorosei were from those families. It is possible that the five most loyal families chose to serve Imu through the generations. It is also likely that Imu chose the five representatives personally, as he didn’t want another blunder to happen. Whether the families have been replaced after every generation or the same five continue to serve Imu to this day is unclear.
Another big mystery surrounding the Gorosei is whether they have been alive for the same number of years as Imu or whether they are the descendants of the five families. There is a strong possibility that they are also immortal, but that would have required five different people willing to sacrifice themselves for the Immortality Surgery ofthe Ope Ope no Mi. While the odds are low, it isn’t entirely impossible. There is a chance that the Devil Fruit was in the possession of the World Government. According to Doflamingo, he could have controlled the world if he had the Ope Ope no Mi. This adds more fuel to the speculation that it belonged to the Gorosei, but somehow it ended up in the hands of Diez Barrels. Aside from their roles as the Godheads, the Gorosei’s main goal is to protect the identity of Imu, the true sovereign of the world. The Gorosei carry out all of Imu’s orders, no matter how outlandish they are. This is a sign of their undying trust in the enigmatic individual. Why the Gorosei serve Imu remains unclear, but Oda will certainly address this question in the final saga.
