Moon Knightcertainly brought a different flavor to the MCU and it’s partly down to this spin that its star, Oscar Isaac, isn’t really too concerned over what will happen to his character now that the series is over, as he explained in a recent in-depth interview.

According to recent data from Nielsen,Moon Knightdebuted asMarvel Studios' least-watched series on Disney Plus. It remains to be seen how those metrics evolved in the following weeks, though part of the explanation behind them may lie in one topic addressed by Isaac:Moon Knight’s status as a brand new characterand his detachment from the rest of the MCU.

Isaac spoke of his previous Marvel experience, which came in the heavily pannedX-Men: Apocalypse, a role he claims he doesn’t disown, especially because it meant having the opportunity of working with Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender. His summary ofX-Menis one for the books, confessing, “I loved Apocalypse, I just found him such a freaky, weird character. And then you get there and you’re like, Oh my God, I’ve got all these prosthetics on […] I can’t see anybody. All these actors I wanted to work with — I can’t even see who they are." Isaac concluded by saying he wishes the movie would have turned out better in the end.

Lastly, the actor talked about the challenge of playing a character suffering from dissociative identity disorder, a topic he was largely unfamiliar with before playing Moon Knight’s two personas, for which his own brother, actor Michael Benjamin Hernandez, often served as a stand-in. As of the first five episodes,Moon Knightis yet to be connectedin any shape or form to the wider MCU, except for a couple of mentions of locations like Madripoor orBlack Panther’s Ancestral Plane. As Isaac himself says, the series is a “slow-reveal mystery” and Marvel Studios is definitely taking a chance onMoon Knight.
