Rumors have been swirling regarding the potential announcement ofOverwatch 2at BlizzCon 2019. Many of those early leaked details aboutOverwatch 2are reportedly true, according to ESPN, which claims to have access to an official BlizzCon 2019 “training document.” This document, as well as the source that provided it, confirm thatOverwatch 2will be announced at BlizzCon 2019 and that it will feature a new character announcement, a new multiplayer mode, as well as early details about a robust PvE-focused story mode.

To start, exactly what thePvE mode inOverwatch 2is and how it will work isn’t made clear. It exists and has 4-player cooperative gameplay, but just how large of a part ofOverwatch 2is remains to be clarified. The document does indicate, however, that it will be adding certain features. For example,Overwatch’s heroes will have access to “Hero talents” of some kind and a variety of in-game items. There’s also mention of a “story experience,” presumably a playable stage, set in Rio de Janeiro.

Also going to be announced is a brand new multiplayer mode to go along withOverwatch’s existing modes. This new mode is named Push and, again unfortunately, there are no details describing exactly what the mode entails. It will beOverwatch’s eigth multiplayer mode, though likely just its fifth in competitive play, and confirms thatOverwatch 2will continue to support the series' brand ofcompetitive Team-based multiplayer, though that’s not so surprising. A new “Toronto” map is also mentioned.

The finalOverwatch 2reveal pulled from the document isOverwatch’s newest hero, or more appropriatelyOverwatch 2’s first new hero. The character’s name is Echo who is a character that’s previously been rumored and teased, revealed duringOverwatch’s “Reunion” cinematic. She’s a robot that’s been in stasis and McCree lets her free so that she can regroup with Overwatch. She’s been missing in action since her reveal, apparently because Blizzard decided to reserve her for release inOverwatch 2.

Much remains to be said aboutOverwatch 2, clearly. The details stemming from this “training guide” appear to refer to the content Blizzard will have available via playable demos at BlizzCon. So attendees should be able to try both the 4-player PvE story mode andOverwatch 2’s new competitive Push mode, with Echo available to play. That means that Blizzard is likely to reveal plenty of other details about the FPS throughoutBlizzCon, which starts on November 1.

Overwatch 2is currently unannounced and has no release date or supported platforms.
