Summary

Two of Blizzard’s biggest franchises are crossing over for this Halloween season withOverwatch 2receiving a handful ofDiablo 4themed skins for its heroes during the Rise of Darkness season. In addition to theseDiablo 4-themed cosmetics,Overwatch 2Season 7 also features a new game mode for its Halloween Terror event titled Trials of Sanctuary that allows players to battle demons ofDiablo 4’s Burning Hells. However, for someOverwatch2 players, this might be their first introduction to the world ofDiablo, and they may not be familiar with the characters featured as event skins.

Each of these skins references a different character from theDiabloseries, transforming these heroes into some ofDiablo’s residents of the High Heavens and Burning Hells. Although some of these character choices are more iconic than others, they are generally fitting for theOverwatch 2hero that gains their associated skin. There has been somebacklash fromOverwatch 2playersover some of these skins being locked behind a $39.99 bundle, but the existence of these skins at all is a great tribute toDiabloand may serve as an introduction to the series forOverwatch 2players.

Lilith Moira

TheLilith skin for Moirais the headliner for thisDiablo 4crossover as it has been the focus of marketing materials for this season and was leaked prior to an official announcement. InDiablo 4, Lilith is known as the Mother of Sanctuary, the daughter of one of the three Prime Evils, Mephisto, who created the world of Sanctuary as a refuge from the war between the High Heavens and the Burning Hells. ThisOverwatch 2incarnation adorns Moira with Lilith’s signature horns and elegant robed appearance, fitting for two characters known for dealing both pain and pleasure.

Inarius Pharah

Inarius in theDiabloseriesis the counterpart to Lilith, who is both her former lover and co-creator of Sanctuary. As a member of the High Heavens, the angel Inarius became disillusioned with the war against the Burning Hells and, sharing a common goal with Lilith, created Sanctuary and its inhabitants known as the nephalem. He eventually betrayed Lilith banishing her to the void in order to reduce the growing power of the nephalem, leading their descendants to worship him as the noble savior of Sanctuary within the Cathedral of Light, which aligns with Pharah’s role as the virtuous paragon ofOverwatch.

Azmodan Wrecking Ball

The world ofDiablocontains three Prime Evils: Diablo, Mephisto, and Baal, who act as the Triune of rulers of the Burning Hells, along with four Lesser Evils: Duriel, Andariel, Belial, and Azmodan who serve as secondary rulers. Fed up with the way the Prime Evils were handling the war, Azmodan along with Belial revolted against them and used his cunning wit as a tactician to devise a plan to subvert the Prime Evils and end the stalemate with the High Heavens. Wrecking Ball similarly is a capable warrior and strategist thanks to Hammond’s enhanced intelligence, and both Azmodan and Wrecking Ball have a round body with spider-like appendages.

Imperius Reinhardt

Imperius may not be one of the more prominent characters in theDiabloseries, but he plays an important role as the Archangel of Valor and de facto ruler of the High Heavens. Known for his bravery in the war against the Burning Hells, Imperius is said to have lead the Heavenly Host to many victories against the armies of Hell, but was unable to defend the High Heavens from Diablo’s invasion inDiablo 3.Reinhardt is similarly known for his valoramong the Crusaders during the Omnic Crisis, yet also overestimates his power and fails to defend Eichenwalde castle.

Overwatch 2is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
