As part of the Overwatch League Grand Finals, Blizzard has officially revealed Ramattra as the next Tank hero forOverwatch 2. Blizzard confirmed a while ago that new heroes would be added to the game during even-number seasons, and it also letOverwatch 2fans know that the next hero would be a Tank, but now fans know his name.
Ramattra, voiced by Ramon Tikaram, was revealed toOverwatch 2fans with an origin video that explained his backstory. Ramattra is essentially an omnic terrorist, serving as the leader of the villainous Null Sector group. Ramattra has a storied history withSupport hero Zenyatta, and in fact, they consider each other “brothers.” But where Zenyatta hopes to achieve a peaceful existence for omnics and humans, Ramattra has been radicalized by humanity’s atrocities and wants to violently liberate his omnic people.

Those interested in playing as Ramattra should note that they don’t have a long wait ahead of them.Overwatch 2Season 2will kick off on December 6, and that’s the exact day Ramattra will be added to the game. Blizzard confirmed to Game Rant that Ramattra will remain locked behind the Battle Pass, just like new Support hero Kiriko was, and that free-to-play gamers will have to reach tier 55 to unlock him. It’s also been confirmed thatOverwatch 2Season 2 will see the addition of a new map with ties to Ramattra, though Blizzard has yet to reveal that to the public.
While Ramattra gameplay wasn’t shown in the origin trailer, Blizzard has touched on what fans can expect from the character’s abilities. One of Ramattra’s defining abilities will be the power to transform into his hulking “Nemesis” form. This will greatly expand Ramattra’s size and power and, notably, will give him access to a new suite of abilities that he doesn’t have access to in his default form. Blizzard compared Ramattra’s transformation toDamage hero Bastion, meaning it functions as an ability and has a cooldown timer so Ramattra players can’t go on a rampage in their Nemesis form indefinitely.
Blizzard pointed out that Ramattra, similar to characters likefellow Tank hero D.Va, presents a unique challenge to design skins for because of his two forms. It will definitely be interesting to see what alternate skin concepts the developers have dreamed up for him, butOverwatch 2fans will have to be satisfied with the origin story while they wait to see more of the new Tank hero in action.
Overwatch 2is out now in early access for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
