AnOverwatch 2player is claiming that the game’s pricing is misleading after purchasing the new Cyber Dragon Hanzo skin separate from its bundle. Pricing inOverwatch 2has been heavily criticized since the multiplayer shooter released in October, but Blizzard has remained silent on the subject. Unsurprisingly, players have continued to share stories about how they felt tricked or taken advantage of since, if only in hope that Blizzard will make some changes toOverwatch 2’s pricing in the future.
A major focus of complaints fromOverwatch 2players has been the game’s bundles. These bundles typically include a new skin, as well as a voice line, spray, and player icon. Not only are the prices for these bundles criticized, but so are the “discounts” Blizzard attaches to them. Since the skins weren’t available prior, or individually,Overwatch 2players said these “discounted” bundles were misleading. TheOverwatch 2skin discounts could potentially even illegalin some regions. Blizzard has since made skins and bundle items available individually, which has created its own problems.

Reddit user BipolarAndBritish made a post capturing their frustration over a recent purchase that they made. They explain that they made an “assumption” regardingOverwatch 2skin pricing. That assumption being that the individual skin will be cheaper than paying for the bundle. As such, they purchased theCyber Dragon Hanzoskin individually, and only afterward thought to check the bundle price. The bundle price ended up being the exact same price as the skin’s individual price.
While BipolarAndBritish does state that they feel like they made a mistake and that they should have checked the pricing, what happened with their purchase captures several frustrating issues with theOverwatch 2store. For one, in order to purchase the skin individually, players have to accessOverwatch 2’s Heroes menu. This is not a part of the store and offers no way to compare prices to what’s in the store.
Further, the pricing ofOverwatch 2’s individual skinsisn’t to the benefit of its players. Keep in mind the individual skin prices were only added after players criticized skins being locked to bundles, and raised concerns over legal issues. It is certainly intuitive that a skin separate from a bundle should be cheaper than a bundle, but Blizzard appears to have priced individual skins solely to justify bundle pricing.
With luck, BiopolarAndBritish will be able to contact Blizzard customer service and receive a refund, then will be able to make a fair decision on whether they want the bundle or not. They made a mistake, but it was due to frustrating store design from Blizzard. Hopefully, they aren’t punished for that. Long-term, Blizzard will hopefully make an effort tobetter informOverwatch 2players of pricing, never mind offering fairer pricing in general.
