Amazon’s amazing adaptionof Garth Ennis’sThe Boys, the Eric Kripke, has seen any number of famous faces pop up during its three-season tenure, and now Paul Reiser, the comedian who started doing serious genre work in 1986’sAliensand joined Netflix’s smash hitStranger Thingsin season 2, will be joining the cast of the hilariously raunchy and irreverent Amazon superhero series.
Reiser, fresh off of continuing hisrun in quality genre work fromStranger Things, is set to join Amazon’s violent and uproariousThe Boys, the series created and produced by Eric Kripke of Supernatural fame and produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg (who are the minds behind another Ennis adaptation,Preacher) as a classic character directly from the pages of the comic itself.

Reiser is going to take on the key role of “The Legend,” the series Stan Lee-alike, known all over to fans as one of the key figures behind the entire Marvel universe. If the role is anything like the real-life Stan the Man, Reiser is taking on quite the part. The character is set to debut this week in the fifth episode ofThe Boysseason 3, titled “The Last Time To Look On This World Of Lies,” per Deadline.
While no description beyond what fans already know from the comics was given, Amazon referred to the character as “an iconic fan-favorite character from the original comic book series,” and gave a first look photo as seen above. There’s little question that Reiser, cigar in hand, will be excellent in the role as he’s always shined in genre performances.
One of the jewels in the Amazon crown, the streamer already renewed the series for a fourth season in an announcement that followed on the heels of the impressive numbers that came in for the premiere of the third season. With Reiser joining the cast, alongside other newcomers like Laurie Holden and Jensen Ackles,The Boysis only going to get darker, funnier, and stranger in the days to come.
Reiser started out doing small parts alongside his stand-up comedy, and made waves when he was cast as Carter Burke, the villainous representative ofWeyland-Yutaniwho tricks Ellen Ripley into returning to LV-426 in the James Cameron-helmed sequel to the 1970’s horror classicAlien, a smash hit the year it came out. He followed that success with his own sitcom, starring alongside Helen Hunt, in the 90s fave (and recent reboot recipient)Mad About You.
