ThePokémonfranchise has come a long way since the nineties, hasn’t it? For some old fans, the original 151 critters represent the pinnacle of Pokémon design, and as the roster’s expanded,Game Freakhave been unable to create anything to match them. Still, there are hundreds upon hundreds of different Pokémon now, so you’ve got to expect tastes to differ and ideas to feel a little familiar at times.

Here’s an interesting question: which Pokémon are the funniest? There are a lot of factors that go into that one, such as how they’ve been received, whether they’re intentionally funny themselves, whether they just look ridiculous or so on. Our picks for this article encompass all these factors and more, so let’s take a look!
10Metapod And Kakuna
Now, we can appreciateMetapod and Kakuna, we really can. The entire point of their existence is to embody that chrysalis stage in the life of a bug, which is why they’re almost entirely useless in battle themselves. It’s a common Bug-type trope that’s been used for generations of games, and it makes perfect sense.
Even so, there’s also no denying that these two have always been figures of fun in the community. The concept of intense Metapod vs Metapod or Kakuna vs Kakuna ‘Harden battles’ may be funny, but it’s also very, very sad. Those poor Bug Catchers that actually attempt to use these things in serious battles! As a result, we just couldn’t rank them any higher.
9Trubbish
That’s right, friends. It’s poor old Trubbish, perhaps one of the most snarked-on Pokémon designs in the history of the series. We’re not sure if you’ve noticed, but… it’s a literal garbage bag.
For some, this sort of thing (alongside Vanillite the ice cream cone and its ilk) represents the series jumping the shark. Whileit’d be tough to find a less inspired Pokémon design, the unfortunate Trubbish accepts its place as the target of all the jokes and soldiers on.
8Galarian Darmanitan
Galarian Darmanitan is in a bit of an odd position here. On the one hand, it’s an absolute powerhouse (even if it is anIce-type, which is rarely a good thing), and you never want to joke about it. With its Gorilla Tactics Ability and absurd Attack stat, it can crush opposing teams into sad hunks of tear-soaked failure in seconds.

The thing we just can’t get away from, however, is that design. Darmanitan has always looked distinctly derpy, and the addition of some kind of elaborate hairstyle made of snow just wasn’t the way to help with that. It’s one of thesilliest looking Pokémonever, but it’s so dang strong that we’d never tell it so to its face.
7Probopass
Of course, you just can’t discuss the silliest looking Pokémon ever without this glorious monstrosity making an appearance. What exactly is going on here? An enormous, sentient nose with orbiting Mini-Noses and a mustache that appears to be made from iron filings? It’s all very odd to say the least.
Hilarious as all of this may be, Nosepass and Probopass are actually fairly run of the mill once you get right down to it. They’re super slow Rock- andSteel- types, with hefty defenses and a nice range of supportive moves. That’s why we’re going to keep them around the middle point of the list.
6Mr. Rime
Now, we all know thatMr. Mimeis a bit of a controversial character in the series. There’s a faction in the community that finds the creature absolutely terrifying (there’s no getting away from that whole creepy clown thing), while other just accept its silly mime ways for what they are.
In that regard, its Galarian form is probably the funniest. It just looks much more innocent, more playful. On evolution into Mr. Rime, Galarian Mr. Mime takes on a whole new level of funny. Its gleeful dancing and ridiculous animations endear many to it, even though some just can’t get away from standard Mr. Mime’s creepy connotations.
5Pyukumuku
Pyukumuku is a very tough Pokémon to get a handle on. What is it? What’s it doing? Why is it such a dang pain to get rid of? If you’re the kind of player who just can’t abide passive damage sponges like Wobbuffet, you’re not going to appreciate this odd little creature.
Pyukumuku’s only goal is to make its opponent regret absolutely every life decision they’ve ever made. ThisGen VII Water-typehas an utterly barren move pool, but just the tools it needs (Recover and Toxic, mainly) to gradually chip away at the other team. Innards Out (which deals damage to the opponent that knocked it out equal to the damage it took from the last blow) rounds it out nicely. It’s either hilarious or infuriating to watch this bizarre little thing in action, depending on which side of the battlefield you’re watching from.
4Swablu
Altaria itself is probably the least intimidating Dragon-type we’ve ever seen (or could imagine). Its pre-evolution, Swablu, is even more adorable, especially when you considerPokémon Black 2 and White 2’s Pokédex entry about it:“For some reason, it likes to land on people’s heads softly and act like it’s a hat.”

That’s just darn funny to think about as it is, but here’s the best part: fans have Photoshopped this Pokédex entry to make it look as though it belongs to other, much more terrifying Flying Pokémon, such as Yveltal. Now that would be a sight to see.
3Snorlax
To be completely frank, we just don’t know what’s funniest about Snorlax. Is it the fact that its whole ‘waking up just to eat and then going back to napping’ lifestyle is an absolute mood of moods? Is it the fact that all manner of memes have sprung from its ‘blocking the path’ trope? Yes, and yes. But there’s more.
Its exclusive Z-Move, Pulverizing Pancake, has the absolute best animation of any attack in thePokémonseries, bar none. Do you see what happens when you wake aSnorlax? Do you?
2Magikarp
Really, it had to beMagikarptaking the second-place spot here. Of all Pokémon, this unfortunate Water-type is probably the biggest running joke in series history. Even Game Freak themselves seem determined to point out just how terrible it is, with cruel Pokédex entries such as this doozy:“It is virtually worthless in terms of both power and speed. It is the most weak and pathetic Pokémon in the world.”
Having said all of that, though, it evolves into the monstrous Gyarados, which is more than enough to silence some of the jokers. Besides, in terms of being intentionally funny, our final pick definitely tops the rest overall.
1Meowth
Firstly, we’ve got to point out the obvious: Gigantamax Meowth is probably the most meme-tastic reference Nintendo/Game Freak have ever made, and you’ve got to appreciate that. Even more importantly, though, Team Rocket’s Meowth just steals the spotlight in every darn scene of the anime.
As a rare Pokémon actually capable of speech, this Meowth is a surprisingly sarcastic little guy, spouting some truly priceless one-liners and quips that would make Arnold Schwarzenegger proud. The funniest all-around Pokémon for sure.
