Summary

APokemonfan has created an animation highlighting how big Gen 1 Pokemon are compared to Ash Ketchum. ThePokemonfranchise has been going strong for decades, and this Gen 1 fan is reminding gamers just how big the original Pokemon are.

Since the first games were released,Pokemonfans have filled their Pokedex’s with each encounter and capture. The Pokedex includes several details about each Pokemon, with a description that gives players an idea of how they typically act. This information ranges from Drowzee eating the dreams of unsuspecting foes to Alakazam having an IQ of 5,000. Alongside these details are the height and weight of the Pokemon. One fan has taken the Gen 1 height data of all 151 initial entries and compared them tothePokemonanime protagonist.

Reddit user Firefly99999 recently shared aPokemonGen 1animation following Ash Ketchum down a lineup of the original 151. Fitting thePokemonlore, Ash measures 1.55 meters. Because Ash is walking in the foreground, he appears closer to 1.7 meters than 1.55. The starter Pokemon Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle are roughly the same size, but each grows to up to 2 meters through evolution. Flying Pokemon like Pidgey and Spearow are depicted from the ground, which helps compare them to the others. This doesn’t apply to floating Pokemon like Gastly and Koffing, making them seem taller than they are due to empty space beneath them.

Some Pokemon that stand out as remarkably large in this animation are Onix (8.8 meters) and Gyarados (6.5 meters). Many are in the range of 2 meters, including Kangaskhan, Dragonite, andLegendary Pokemon Mewtwo. A handful of the Gen 1 Pokemon may be bigger than fans expected, like Victreebel (1.7 meters), Arbok (3 meters), and Aerodactyl (1.8 meters). Some notably small Pokemon are Caterpie (0.3 meters), Squirtle (0.5 meters), and Mew (0.4 meters). Given that Diglett and Dugtrio are protruding from the ground as they do in the anime, it’s currently unclear what their full size is based on the animation.

While Firefly99999’s animation provides an idea of how the Pokemon scale next to Ash Ketchum and the Gen 1 world, it exempts Gen 2 and beyond. There have been ninePokemongenerations, each with varying numbers of Pokedex entries. With so many Pokemon left out, a future animation may have to look atgames likePokemon Goldand Silver,Ruby and Sapphire, and more.
