Summary

Pokemon Scarlet and Violetare over one year old now, and The Indigo Disk DLC is just a couple of weeks away from release. There is a lot that Gen 9 has done for the series' present and possibly its future too, but it still lacks some key elements to truly make it stand out, and The Indigo Disk adding endgame activities could very well fix that, at least to some degree. There are many strong Pokemon in theGen 9 Pokedex, including Paradox Pokemon and a handful of Legendaries or Hisuian forms, but many Mythicals are missing. If Gen 9 ends up adding ways of farming Mythicals, there’s one Gen 8 event it should take a closer look at to try and repeat its success.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violetmay have a Mythical problembased on the leaks, in the sense that The Indigo Disk either includes a Mythical Pokemon that will only become available much later in the future or it will feature none, which would break a massive tradition. The former feels like the more sensible option, and if that is the case, then the DLC should at least give players methods of catching a few Mythicals that haven’t been available in a while.Pokemon Sword and Shielddid this majestically with a time-limited event, and Gen 9 should draw inspiration from that.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Should Give More Mythicals the Zeraora Treatment

How Pokemon Sword and Shield Gave a Free Shiny Mythical Pokemon Away

In June 2020, The Pokemon Company held a unique event forPokemon Sword and Shieldwhere players could battle and defeat Zeraora in Max Raid encounters, but they couldn’t catch this Mythical Pokemon at the end of the fight. Instead, if at least one million players defeated Zeraora in Max Raid battles, everyone would get a shiny version of the critter, which is much more valuable and unique than regular Zeraora, and it’s somethingPokemon Scarlet and Violetshould try and emulate.

Shiny Mythical Pokemon That Are Still Shiny-Locked As Of Gen 9

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Mew vs. Mewtwo eventwas the first and last of its kind, with Gen 9 never featuring other Legendary Pokemon before or after it. With this never having been done for Mythical Pokemon after Zeraora in Gen 8, there’s a strong case to be made forPokemon Scarlet and Violetto feature yet another community event that allows fans to get their hands on an exclusive shiny Mythical. There are several Mythical Pokemon that have never been available as shiny, and they include the following:

Why Giving the Zeraora Treatment to Other Mythical Pokemon Makes Sense

HavingPokemon Scarlet and Violetrepeat theshiny Zeraora Max Raid eventbut for different Mythical Pokemon, be it one or multiple ones, would be a great approach for future Tera Raids, maybe as early as December 2023 or January 2024. It would be even better if these hypothetical events were dedicated to critters that have been shiny-locked for as long as they’ve been around. The most sensible choices would be Victini and Zarude, with the former being shiny-locked the longest and the latter being the latest to be introduced, and thus giving players a chance to get it outside of Gen 8 would be nice.

Shiny Mythical Pokemonare not exactly a common occurrence in the series, and while the Zeraora event made its shiny special for those who got it, it shouldn’t be a one-time type of deal. Instead, providing players with more options to get shiny Mythical Pokemon in similar events would be a great way to keep Gen 9 alive far longer than any other Tera Raid event could, especially if The Indigo Disk is indeed its last DLC.
