Pokemon Scarlet & Violetplayers that purchased the expansion pack, The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero, should have received The Teal Mask as early as July 12, 2025. Not only does this unlock a new area with new Pokemon and characters, but trainers can also spot returning Pokemon. Some of these include the Hisuian Pokemon fromLegends: Arceus.
Hisuian Growlithe and Hisuian Arcanine are Fire/Rock-type, unlike their Kanto/regular counterparts. The typing alone might give trainers some pause, but if they want Hisuian Growlithe-line just to have it in the PC, they’ll have ways of obtaining one inPokemonScarlet & Violet.
Where to Find Hisuian Growlithe
Players will notice a Hisuian Growlithe under the ownership of Perrin, a photographer who bears a striking resemblance to Adaman fromPokemon Legends: Arceus. Speaking to her initiatesthe Blood Moon Ursaluna side quest, butonlyif trainers have already caught150 Pokemon in the Kitakami Dex. She’ll then want to battle the player character with herlevel 68/70 NoctowlandLeafeon.
Once the Blood Moon Ursaluna side quest has been completed, trainers will need toreturn to where they met Perrin in Kitakami. As thanks for helping her with getting pictures of the Ursaluna, she’ll give trainers amale Hisuian Growlithe.
Since the Blood Moon Ursaluna is a difficult Pokemon to defeat, it’s recommended that trainers don’t start the mission until they’relevel 70+. Despite this, they can help Perrin outbeforecompleting “The Way Home” main quest.
How to Get Another Hisuian Growlithe
To get another Hisuian Growlithe, trainers can breed the Growlithe they receive from Perrin with a Ditto or another Growlithe. Since this one is locked in as a male, it can’t breed with other Pokemon in its Egg Group. This is because breeding Pokemon by Egg Group winds up with the offspring taking after the mother.
If trainers breed the Hisuian Growlithe, they’ll need tomake sure it’s holding anEverstonefirst. This will guarantee the Growlithe Egg will hatch into the Hisuian Growlithe and not the Kantonian one. Everstones can be bought fromDelibird Presentsfor 3000.
The other way to get Hisuian Growlithe is totransfer one fromPokemon Legends: ArceusorPokemon GO.

How to Evolve Hisuian Growlithe into Hisuian Arcanine
Trainers can evolve Hisuian Growlithe into Hisuian Arcanin by giving it a Fire Stone. Fortunately, the method isn’t different from a Kantonian Growlithe. Trainers can find Fire Stones in mountainous regions, but the surefire way to get them is tobuy from Delibird Presents. Like the Everstone, they cost3000, but trainers will needthree Gym Badgesbefore the Fire Stones can be bought.
Like Kantonian Arcanine, trainers will need to go into Hisuian Arcanine’s Moves & Stats page (in their Summary) to make it Remember moves. They can also learn moves via TMs.
Hisuian Growlithe (Arcanine) or Kantonian Growlithe (Arcanine)?
The major difference between Hisuian and Kantonian Growlithe that trainers are going to want to take note of are their Typings. Hisuian Growlithe isFire/Rockwhile Kantonian Growlithe isFire-typeonly. Those familiar withPokemonwill know that the Hisuian Growlithe (and Arcanine) will suffertwo x4 weaknesses to more than one Type attack. Despite this, it’s best for players to know the pros and cons of both the Hisuian and Kantonian Growlithe-family.

A base stat total of 555 is quiteimpressive for a non-Legendary, but players are going to want to note the Arcanines' best stats and worse stats. The good news is none of its base stats fall below 80. The bad news is that while it’s agood attackerand adecent special attacker, both of its Defense stats aren’t going to protect it from moves that it’s weak against. It’s also a fast Pokemon with Kantonian Growlithe/Arcanine having 5 points higher in base Speed, but this alone isn’t going to be enough againstmuchquicker opponents.
Hisuian and Kantonian Arcanine’s Abilities
Arcanine and Hisuian Arcanine both haveIntimidateandFlash Firefor their Abilities. They’re both good for battle, but Intimidate can be negated or even turned against Arcanine if the opposing Pokemon has the right Ability (i.e: Magic Bounce or Oblivious). As forHidden Abilities, Hisuian Arcanine hasRock Head, which protects it from taking recoil damage. Kantonian Arcanine hasJustified, which powers up its Attack stat when hit by a Dark-type move. Comparing the two, it’s obvious which Arcanine has the better Hidden Ability.
More Information on Hisuian & Kantonian Arcanine
Hisuian Arcanine is a great Pokemon to use in battle as long as its being used for dishing out damage rather than acting as a wall. However, players are battling against a Water or a Ground-type,they’ll want to keep Hisuian Arcanine in its Poke Ball. Unlike Kantonian Arcanine,Hisuian Arcanine takes quadruple damage from Water and Ground-type movesthanks to its Fire/Rock dual-typing. With its Defense and Special Defense being its lowest stats, there’s no way it’s going to survive a hard-hitting move that targets its type weaknesses without setting up defense-raising moves beforehand.This alone may be enough for trainers to choose Kantonian Growlithe/Arcanine over its Hisuian counterpart.
Despite this, Hisuian Arcanine can learn moves via TMs that give it coverage against Water and Ground-types, such asThunder FangandSolar Beam. If Hisuian Arcanine has its Hidden Ability, then it can run powerful moves like Flare Blitz and Wild Charge without having to worry about recoil damage. This is one thing it has over Kantonian Arcanine, whose Hidden Ability (Justified) pales in comparison due to how situational it is.
