It’s been 10 years since the launch ofSkate 3, and fans are still waiting for EA to announceSkate 4. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem likely that anySkate 4announcement will be made soon if information from professional skateboarder Jason Dill is to be believed.
Speaking on The Nine Club podcast, hosted by fellow skateboarder Chris Roberts, Dill revealed that EA approached him about appearing in a mobile version ofSkate 3. “I got a call from the EA people about 10 months ago,” Dill explained. According to Dill, he asked EA if there was something else it wanted him to appear in besides a mobile version ofSkate 3, likeSkate 4. However, EA indicated that it had no plans to makeSkate 4, to which Dill reportedly replied, “Look, no big deal. No one wants your stupid mobile version ofSkate 3. MakeSkate****ing4already!” Dill then wished EA “a lot of luck onNeed for Speed 29” and reiterated that he would not be in a mobile version ofSkate 3.

If EA is still pursuing a mobile version ofSkate 3, it’s unclear exactly when the game will be coming out. It’s possible that the company realized that it would get a lot of backlash for releasing a mobile version ofSkate 3instead of afull-fledgedSkate 4, and so has decided to shelve it. However, that’s just speculation at this time.
In the same podcast, Dill also mentioned thepreviously leakedTony Hawkvideo gamethat’s reportedly due out in 2020, and he also spoke highly about theSkater XLgame that’s in development.Skater XLis a realism-focused skateboarding gameclearly inspired by EA’sSkatefranchise that’s due out for release at some point this summer across multiple platforms. Whether or not it can live up toSkate’s legacy remains to be seen, however.
In the meantime, there is still some hope that EA will eventually move forward withSkate 4.EA renewed theSkatetrademarkat the end of 2019, which could be an indication that it still has plans for the franchise in some capacity. Of course, those plans could be mobile games instead ofSkate 4, but at this point, some fans may be willing to take any kind ofSkategame they can get.
