A gamer shopping at Best Buy found a copy of theResident Evil 4remake marked with a sticker that claims the game can be played with a guitar controller. While the originalResident Evil 4game did have a chainsaw controller players could use, theResident Evil 4remake has had no such gimmicky controller made for it just yet.
While they are now commonplace at thrift stores and garage sales, there once was a time whenguitar controllersand their associated games were all the rage.Guitar Herowas a cultural phenomenon, withRock Bandenjoying a great deal of success as well. Music/rhythm games dominated retail shelf space for years, and it seems Best Buy still has some leftover plastic cases that once housed these games.

Reddit user PopcronHD was shopping at Best Buy when they noticed a physical copy oftheResident Evil 4remakeon PlayStation 5 inside a standard, anti-theft plastic case. A sticker on the front of the case claims that the game can be played with a guitar controller “or expand to a band.” It seems likely that the case once housed one of the laterGuitar Herogames or any of theRock Bandgames. Judging by the sticker’s condition, it seems efforts to pull it off the case have been futile.
While theResident Evil 4remake isn’t built with a guitar controller in mind, it may still actually be possible to play through the game with one. In fact, streamers often make it a point to playing through games with guitar controllers, oftentimes ultra-difficult games like FromSoftware’sSoulsseries orElden Ring. TheResident Evil 4remake is not nearly as difficult as those titles, but it would still be a sight to see someone getS+ rank on Professional difficultywith a guitar controller or some other kind of unconventional input device.
Unfortunately for fans of music/rhythm games and their associated controllers, the giants of the genre have been dormant for years. There was an attempt to reviveRock BandwithRock Band 4, but that ultimately failed, and there hasn’t been a newGuitar Herogame since 2015’sGuitar Hero Live. Activision has talked aboutrevivingGuitar Heroafter it’s acquired by Microsoft, but with the UK’s CMA blocking the deal, it seems fans will be waiting very long time for that to happen, if it ever does.
Resident Evil 4is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
