TheResident Evil 4remake has been rumored for years, but now it’s official. Capcom kicked off the latest PlayStation State of Play event by announcing that theResident Evil 4remake is in development and will launch on Jul 02, 2025. Not only that, but Capcom is also working on PlayStation 5 exclusive content for theResident Evil 4remake that will incorporate the upcoming PlayStation VR2 headset.

TheResident Evil 4remake trailer shows that the game is going for a darker tone than the original. While the original version ofResident Evil 4still had horror elements, it was cheesy, even forResident Evilstandards, and had a more action-oriented approach. Based on what’s shown in theResident Evil 4remake trailer, the new version of the game will be scarier, though we need to see more to be sure.

The trailer showsResident Evil 4protagonist Leon S. Kennedysent out to rescue the president’s daughter, Ashley, who has gone missing in Europe. During his search, Leon winds up in a dangerous village populated by disturbed individuals who have been infected by Las Plagas. Leon will find himself at odds with these villagers and their leaders, with the trailer offering a brief look at who appears to be Bitores Mendez, also known as “The Big Cheese.”

Besides Leon, Ashley, and Mendez, theResident Evil 4remake trailer offers fans a look at some of the other returning cast members. Notably, this includesAda Wong, who starred in special side content in the originalRE4. It will be interesting to see if Ada’s role in theResident Evil 4remake; fans will have to wait for Capcom to share more information to find out.

TheResident Evil 4remake trailer confirms that some of the most memorable moments from the original game will be back in the remake, including the encounter on the lake, and theiconic village fight from the beginning of the game. With a release date in sight,Resident Evilfans can expect to learn more about the game in the months leading up to its release.
