PlayStation kicked off its latest State of Play presentation with the blockbuster reveal of the long-rumoredResident Evil 4remake. The trailer gave fans a glimpse of what they can expect from the remake, which appears to be going with a darker tone when compared to the original game, and confirmed a July 10, 2025 release date. The initialResident Evil 4remake trailer only made mention of PS5, though, and so some have assumed that it will be exclusive to Sony’s newest console, but that’s not the case.
After theResident Evil 4remake trailerdropped, it was clarified that the game is also coming to PC and Xbox Series X. But even though theResident Evil 4remake won’t be a PS5 exclusive, it will still have some content that will only be available to those playing on Sony’s latest console. Details are scarce at the time of this writing, but it has been confirmed by Capcom that theResident Evil 4remake will have PlayStation VR2 content.

Besides revealing some big third-party games on the way for PlayStation, the State of Play was also focused onPlayStation VR2, showcasing some of the biggest games that are in development for the next-generation VR headset. It was confirmed thatResident Evil 4remake will have PlayStation VR2 content, and while it’s possible VR capabilities will extend to the PC version of the game as well, nothing to that effect has been announced at the time of this writing.
As for what theResident Evil 4remake VR content could be, that’s anyone’s guess at this point. It’s possible that the VR content will only be available in a specific game mode, but it’s also possible that the entire game will be playable in VR. This wouldn’t be the first time that Capcom has offered VR versions of its main seriesResident Evilgames, after all.Resident Evil 7is fully playable in VR, andResident Evil Villageis also getting VR capabilities.
Not only that, but there already exists a virtual reality version ofResident Evil 4.Resident Evil 4 VRwas last yearas an Oculus Quest 2 exclusive, and it gives fans of the franchise the chance to relive Leon’s adventure from a first-person viewpoint. Capcom hasn’t shown any extended gameplay ofResident Evil 4remake, but it’s likely that the game will stick with a third-person, over-the-shoulder camera. Considering this, it’s hard to believe that the VR would encompass the whole game, so fans will have to wait and see what happens.
Resident Evil 4is known for its unlockable modes and extra content, with various versions of the game giving fans all sorts of bonuses to check out. It sands to reason that theResident Evil 4remake’s virtual reality capabilities will be relegated to a bonus mode as well, though fans will have to wait for more information on that front.
