Resident Evil 8was featured at Capcom’s Tokyo Game Show presentation, where director Morimasa Sato discussed various aspects about the upcoming survival-horror game. One thing that Sato stressed during the presentation was thatResident Evil 8will be more open thanResident Evil 7was, with a greater focus on exploration. To that end, the developers have strived to make the village in the game a second “protagonist” alongside Ethan Winters.
Resident Evil 8will give players much more freedom to explore thanResident Evil 7did, so fans of the franchise should be able to expect a generally less linear experience.Resident Evilgames have allowed for open exploration in the past, though it will be interesting to see how it works with even less restrictions. According to Sato, themore open exploration inResident Evil 8makes it feel like “a horror movie you can play.”

The developers also spoke aboutResident Evil 8protagonist Ethan Winters, who will get significantly more fleshed out in this game when compared toRE7. They admitted that Ethan was little more than a “camera” for the player, but inResident Evil 8, he will be a more fully-realized character.
Besides Ethan, there will be plenty other characters for fans to interact with throughout the course ofResident Evil 8. FrequentResident Evilseries protagonist Chris Redfield has been featured numerous times in the trailers, and he will no doubt play a major role in the upcoming game. Ethan’s wife Mia will also be seen, and there will be variousNPCs in the villagethat players can interact with as well.
Besides these potential allies, Ethan will also have to contend with a variety of monsters inResident Evil 8. Witch-like people have been shown in the trailers, along with a werewolf-like creature. Previous leaks have suggested thatResident Evil 8will have armored zombiesas well, so it sounds like the new game will have much more enemy variety thanRE7, and that Ethan will have his hands full, to say the least.
While Sato spoke briefly aboutResident Evil 8atTokyo Game Showtoday, much more information on the game is expected to come later this weekend. Capcom has a lengthierResident Evil 8Tokyo Game Show presentation planned, and it’s there where fans can expect to learn a lot more about what they can expect from the game. Here’s hoping that will include a playableResident Evil 8demo that fans can try before release, similarly to what Capcom did withRE7.
Resident Evil 8will launch for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X in 2021.
