Netflix’s latest adult animation seriesFarzarcomes from the creators ofBrickleberryandParadise PD, Roger Black and Waco O’Guin. The ten-episode series, which premiered July 15, stars Lance Reddick, who has also appeared inParadise PD,Fringe, andJohn Wick, as the self-obsessed human warrior Renzo who freed the planet Farzar from the evil alien Bazarack. As the show continues, the planet falls under attack, again.
While esteemed in the animation genre, Reddick doesn’t just lend his voice to television shows. He is also the voice behind Commander Zavala in theDestinyvideo game franchise. Since 2014, the actor has voiced the character in nineDestinyvideo games, including the latest ones:Destiny 2: Beyond LightandDestiny 2: The Witch Queen.

Inan interview with Game RantaboutFarzar, Black and O’Guin revealed that they playDestiny 2with Reddick every Saturday. When asked about casting the talented actor, O’Guin said, “We had to beg to get him on the show. When we started writing that character, his voice was in our head. Once you get a voice in your head, and you start writing the dialogue in that voice, it is devastating to not get that actor.”
He continued, “We couldn’t hear anybody else at that point, and we didn’t know what we were going to do if he didn’t do it. We knew Lance fromParadise PD,and we knew that he has a very silly sense of humor, just like we do. So, we knew we had a good shot, but you never know for sure. We were so happy when we got Lance, he’s the perfect actor for that role.” Black agreed, saying, “Definitely.” He went on to share thatthey playDestiny 2everyweekend. “We’re huge gamers. And the thing we love about Lance is that we playDestiny 2with him, just about every Saturday.”
The creators dubbed Reddick the best player, out of the three, and said that Reddick sometimes speaks to his “NPC character” using his “Renzo voice” fromFarzar. They had chosen Reddick for the role given his vast range. “He’s a very great actor, and he’s got an intense voice, but at the same time he can get emotional, or go crazy and scream. He’s just got a huge range,” said Black.
