Back in 2008, EA publishedMirror’s Edgefor Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, a first-person parkour game which was received pretty well, with people praising the bright visuals in a sea of games that tend to favor drab or dark colors. Not much happened after that, though there was a largely-forgotten about mobile port in 2010. With the 2016 follow-upMirror’s Edge: Catalystbeing a pretty lackluster affair, the series faded away. However, there have been talks about a remaster on the horizon, and a new rumor suggests that it could be out early next year.
A recent 4chan user has speculated that the supposed remaster of the firstMirror’s Edgegame could be just around the corner, with a proposed release date of February 2022. It needs to be said that this is not backed up by any data or leaks, but the possibility of a remastered version of the DICE game was noted in therecent Nvidia GeForce Now leak,in which other titles were also speculated to be getting released. At this stage, it’s best to take the rumor with a pinch of salt, but fans will likely be curious, maybe even pleased, that it could be making something of a comeback.

On top of that, the user suggests that more details, perhaps even the confirmation of a release date, will be announced atthis year’s Game Awards, which is scheduled for December 9. It’s entirely possible that something will get mentioned about the game, which would connect up the GeForce Now leak and this new rumor, but, as stated above, there is not much information to go on at this stage, and nothing has yet been confirmed by official parties.
It’s hard to know how to feel about a remaster ofMirror’s Edge. On the one hand, the first game is now 13 years old, so it feels like enough time has elapsed for the game to be given a modern day coat of paint. However, many gamers might be getting a little sick of the influx of remasters, and would much prefer a brand-new entry in the franchise instead.
Remasters and remakes are currently all the rage. Studios seem interested in bringing back some classic titles rather than risking new IPs, and if there’s anything to be learned from thedisastrous critical reception of theGTA Trilogy, it’s that it doesn’t always pan out. Here’s hoping that whatever news is given out aboutMirror’s Edge, it will please those who fondly remember, at the very least, the first game.
Mirror’s Edgeis available now on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
