According to Sony, the company is still planning on launching its next-generationPlayStation 5console this coming holiday season. Despite this, much about the PS5 has been kept secret, with no reveal or release date confirmation in sight. Official information from Sony regarding the PlayStation 5 is still hard to come by, but a frequent PS5 leaker has revealed what is supposedly the console’s reveal and release dates.
According to PSErebus, the PlayStation 5 console will be revealed on Tuesday, June 2. They made this claim when responding to someone else who said that the PS5 reveal would take place at some point at the end of May. PSErebus then followed this up by making the bold claim that the PS5 release date is June 16, 2025. The PS4 launch in November, and June 08, 2025 is one of the more plausible “leaked"PS5 release datesfloating around.

This is all very exciting information, but fans should take it with a massive grain of salt. PSErebus has made some other big claims about the PlayStation 5 in the past, only for those claims to not come true. For example, PSErebus claimed thatPS5 pre-orderswould begin in March. Of course, March has come and gone with no such development. However, it’s possible that Sony’s original plan was to open PS5 pre-orders in March, but plans changed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Another claim made by PSErebus that appears to have been incorrect was one about the PS5’s backward compatibility. Previously, PSErebus hitned thatPS5 backward compatibility would include PS1, PS3, and PS3titles on top of PS4. Developments since then indicate that this is incorrect, or else Sony is being highly secretive about how far back PlayStation 5 backward compatibility will stretch.
We do know thatPS5 will be backward compatible with PlayStation 4 games, and according to PSErebus, that will be a major selling point for the console at launch. PSErebus listed off a number of high profile PlayStation 4 games that will apparently be playable on PS5 at launch on November 20. Furthermore, these PlayStation 4 games will enjoy the PS5’s “boost mode,” which means they will run better on the new console than they do on PS4.
Whether or not any of this is true remains to be seen, but luckily fans don’t have to wait long to find out. PlayStation gamers should keep an eye out on June 2 to see if that truly is thePS5 reveal date, and if so, they may want to future claims by PSErebus more seriously.
