Scream 6promotion is heading into high gear as the film’s March drop date approaches. This time, Paramount Pictures has shown off a series of new images from the film.
Scream 6is the sixth installment of the franchise. The newScream 6trailerrevealed the return of numerous characters from across the franchise. In the wake of 2022’sScream,Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera) has moved to New York with half-sister Tara (Jenna Ortega) and Tara’s friends (both of whom are related to Jamie Kennedy’s Randy), Mindy Meeks-Martin (Jasmin Savoy Brown) and Chad Meeks-Martin (Mason Gooding). Naturally, a new Ghostface has tagged along, prompting the involvement of fellow survivors Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) and Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere).

The first image released byEntertainment Weeklyshows the younger survivors all holding hands and staring off at something off-screen. The second appears to show Gale Weathers characteristically investigating a dark gateway. The third shows Tara and Sam next to a police officer, no doubt looking for help from Ghostface. There are also shots of Ghostface in action, alongside an image of franchise newcomer Dermot Mulroney’s new character, a police officer. There’s also a look at Panettiere’s return as Kirby, whom she says “[has[ come a long way. What happened to her has obviously impacted her life, and it sends her in a certain direction, but she’s still the same old Kirby at the heart of it. She’s just a little older, a little wiser, but just as spitfire-y, and snarky, and all that good stuff.”
The article also includes the cast discussing theterror of finding Ghostface in New York City. “These kids are running away, and Ghostface is still finding them in the most beautiful city but also the most terrifying because it’s so crowded and it can be aggressive,” Barrera said. Cox agreed, saying, “Bringing Ghostface to New York adds an entirely new element to the story. Taking the character out of a small town and putting them in the heart of the city that never sleeps is more terrifying than ever.”
There’s also a tease about where Ortega’s Tara and Barrera’s Sam are inScream 6. Sam is overly protective of her sister, who wants the normal college experience and to leave the past behind. “Not a lot of time has passed since the last movie,” Barrera said. “Pretty much, the amount of time that we’ve had between one movie and the other is the amount of time that has passed in their world. So the trauma is still very fresh.”
The slasher movie franchiseis known for developing its characters beyond their trauma, so it looks like both Tara and Sam have plenty to overcome inScream 6. The series has now moved past Neve Campbell’s Sidney, and as successors to the main character title, Tara and Sam will take on that sense of emotional resilience and growth.
