Sea of Thieves' Captain Flameheartis an Ashen Skeleton Lord who has been a central figure of the game since its early days. Though not in the game at launch, he had been featured in a pre-launch trailer revealed at E3 2016 and has been a key antagonist in the game’s story since his official introduction in 2019.
An announcement in June had already revealed thatSeason 13 ofSea of Thieveswould let players become the villains, but a new trailer released on July 18 has gone into more detail about the options players will face. Players can still choose to fight the good fight against Flameheart’s Obsidian Skeleton crew and hunt down The Burning Blade, but sinking it will be no easy task. The warship has ten canons, is impervious to fire-based weapons, and can shoot giant fireballs with its Ashen Roar ability, making it the most powerful ship in the entire game. However, players who manage to sink it will receive the Blade of Souls weapon, which grows more valuable based on how many rituals have been completed and can be traded in for gold and reputation.
Seas of Theives Season 13 Lets Players Join Captain Flameheart
Of course, those who swear their loyalty to Captain Flameheart will get to take command of The Burning Blade, effectively becoming the villains of Season 13’s world event. All crews opposing Captain Flameheart will be able to see The Burning Blade’s location on the map, so the players who decide to join Flameheart will need to fend off their attacks, essentially becoming the world event itself.Sea of Thievesplayers can make a lot of moneyupon returning The Burning Blade to Flameheart, also earning some reputation in the process. The new trailer also cautions players that taking over The Burning Blade will result in them abandoning their old ships, so they should be sure that they transfer over all their treasure and resources before switching ships.
In addition to fighting off opposing players, Burning Blade crews will be able to rely on new Skeleton Camps full of Obsidian Skeletons loyal to Flameheart. While Obsidian Skeletons will only aid players onboard The Burning Blade, the camps will be accessible to all players, and the crypt vaults hidden in temples under these camps will allow players to solve puzzles or battle waves of skeletons in order to complete rituals. No matter which side players choose, Season 13 will let them unlock newSea of Thievesoutfitsand weapons, as well as new commendations and rewards.
