WhenThe Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrimwas first released, many players likely did not expect just how massive the open-world action-RPG title would be. Some fans have taken years to complete the main plotline ofSkyrimsimply because they have encountered so many side quests or points of interest as they go through the story. However, these supporting side quests often lead to hilarious experiences, as shown by one player whose character name choice has made it awkward in one of the quests inSkyrim’sDark Brotherhood storyline.
The main story ofSkyrimseems to only take players roughly 34-35 hours of game time if played straight through. However, many in the community likely find themselves losing hours of their playthrough due to the amount of other content they can experience. This does not even include the otherSkyrimDLCs and expansionssuch asDawnguard,Hearthfire, andDragonborn. What’s more, the sheer amount of fan-generated mods that are available for the player base often provide more things to do, whether it is a completely new plot line outside the game’s official scripts or a new series of quests and areas where players can find fan-created weapons and armor.

Telling the tale of their awkward experience as part of one ofSkyrim’sDark Brotherhood side quests, Redditor MrHyde_Behind shared a screenshot of a note they have looted from one of the assassins tasked to attack them. According to MrHyde_Behind, they had unconsciously named their playableSkyrimmain character Astrid without thinking about the side quest’s storyline. MostSkyrimplayers would recall that Astrid is the name of the leader of the assassin group, and the Dragonborn will likely receive this note before they encounter the Dark Brotherhood or during one of the latter quests in the organization’s storyline.
OtherSkyrimplayers on the Reddit thread seem to have found MrHyde_Behind’s situation humorous as well, commenting that the assassin sent to kill the Dragonborn must have been confused. Other members of theSkyrimfanbase and communityalso told stories of their experiences naming their characters, with some choosing unique names to avoid these kinds of awkward situations in-game.
Nevertheless, having the same name as the leader of the Dark Brotherhood inSkyrimlikely did not deter MrHyde_Behind from going through the side quests. Completing the faction’s story and choosing to be part of the organization gives players unique gear as rewards, which is likely one of the main reasons why many players focus on side quests more than the main plot ofSkyrim.
