ASonic Frontiersmodder has added two of theSonicfranchise’s more recently beloved characters into the game. This mod replaces Sonic and Amy, with both characters originating from theSonic the HedgehogIDW Comic series. TheSonic Frontiersmodding community has been very active after the game’s launch, making plenty of characters from across the franchise into playable characters. This includesa mod that makes Shadow the Hedgehog playable inFrontiers, to mods that add costumes like theDragon Ball ZSaiyan Armor or shoes fromSonic Prime. This latest mod adds in the breakout stars from the IDW Comics, Tangle and Whisper.
Tangle the Lemur and Whisper the Wolf were the first two new characters that fans were introduced to in the new IDW Comics canon. Tangle is a hyperactive and excitable lemur who tangles with the bad guys, while Whisper is the calm and quiet antithesis to the primary game cast. After their debuts in the comic, their characters exploded in popularity, getting their own comic book miniseries, becoming playable inSonic Forces: Speed Battle, andSonic Frontierseven name-drops Tangle, ostensibly making her canon to the game’s universe. While Whisper and Tangle don’t make a physical appearance in the game, modders have taken care of that problem.

This mod was created by SonicOnBox and can be downloaded fromSonic Frontiers' Gamebanana page. This mod sees Whisper taking Sonic’s place as the playable character, who has to rescue Tangle who is trapped in Cyberspace. The mod has Whisper without her mask, so players will be able to see her face, though the Whisper mod doesn’t seem to have facial or eye expressions. The Tangle model swap does however have lip sync, as seen with the cutscene between Sonic and Amy, where Tangle’s mouth movements match Amy’s in the scene.
ThisSonic Frontiersmoddoes contain some aesthetic effect changes, where Sonic’s spinball form for Whisper has a golden hue to it, matching her fur color, along with her front hair spike being affected by the physics of Whisper’s hand. The modder promises that the next version of their mod will add more things and extra content, though keeps that part a secret.
Modders have made plenty of otherSonic the HedgehogIDW Comic charactersplayable inSonic Frontiers, complete with their own aesthetic overhauls. This includes a model swap that replaces Sonic with the mean and green imposter Surge the Tenrec, or making the ensemble darkhorse character Lanolin the Sheep playable, with her own super form.
