One of the biggest surprises of the PlayStation 5 game reveal event was the unveiling ofSpider-Man: Miles Moralesfrom Insomniac Games. A followup of sorts to the critically-acclaimedSpider-ManPS4 exclusive,Spider-Man: Miles Moralesis easily one of the most hotly-anticipatedPS5 exclusivesthat will be available for the next-generation console by the end of the year. However, fans should note thatSpider-Man: Miles Moralesis going to be a much shorter game when compared to its PS4 predecessor.

This was confirmed in a recent blog post on the PlayStation website, written by creative director Brian Horton. Horton touched onSpider-Man: Miles Morales' length, comparing it toUncharted: The Lost Legacyin terms of scope. For the uninitiated,Uncharted: The Lost Legacyis a game that is beaten in seven hours on average, according to playtime aggregate site How Long to Beat, and so it seems like fans shouldn’t expectSpider-Man: Miles Moralesto last much longer than that.

SinceSpider-Man: Miles Moralesis going to be a shorter game, one has to wonder if it will come with a budget price.Uncharted: The Lost Legacydidn’t release as a full-priced, $60 release, but it also wasn’t one of the PS4’s first games either. Sony could really go either way when it comes toSpider-Man: Miles Morales' pricing, but fans will need to wait until we’re closer to launch to learn more information.

It should be stressed that even ifSpider-Man: Miles Moralesis a much shorter game thanSpider-Manon PS4, that doesn’t mean it won’t be high-quality.Spider-Man: Miles Moralesshould be a great showcase of the PlayStation 5’s capabilities, with the game already confirmed to be taking advantage of things like thePS5’s ray-tracing, near-instant loading, and unique DualSense controller capabilities.

Furthermore, Horton has said thatSpider-Man: Miles Moraleswill feature a “full story arc with Miles” and that the game will be an “essential experience” when it comes to theSpider-Manvideo game universe. This seems to indicate that the game’s events will somehow lead into or tease what’s to come in theinevitableSpider-Man 2, so fans of the franchise should still come away pleased.

As for whenSpider-Man 2will launch, that remains to be seen. Insomniac is not just busy withSpider-Man: Miles Morales, but the company is also hard at work onRatchet & Clank: Rift Apart, which was easily one of the most impressive games shown during the PS5 game reveal event. So even thoughSpider-Man: Miles Moraleswill be on the shorter side, it should at least whet fans' appetites while they wait for the full-fledged sequel.

Spider-Man: Miles Moraleswill launch holiday 2020, exclusively for PlayStation 5.
