It’s one thing to star in some of the most popular superhero movies of the modern era, let alone theSpider-Manfilms. That alone is no small feat and could probably allow any given actor to just coast for the rest of their life. But sometimes, there’s a difference between popular and “the best,” subjectively speaking, of course. Sure, it’s a huge accomplishment to have a leading role in the biggest films of its respective year, but what about the ones that are less popular, but widely considered among viewers to be genuine cinematic masterpieces?
That’s what seems to be the plan for Zendaya and Tom Holland, both of whom seem ready to take their status as 2 of the main massively beloved stars behind the current run ofSpider-Manmovies to the next level. In a recent interview, the duo spoke about their mutual desire to take part in the extremely well-regardedSpider-Verseseries ofSpider-Manmovies. After Sony recently revealed the first look at the upcoming sequel,Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, it’s understandable that attention has shifted a bit, and not even some of the biggest stars in Hollywood are immune from the pull.

While talking with Syfy Wire, Holland and Zendaya indicated their particular interest in joining the animated franchise. “Love those movies,” Zendaya said when the topic of theSpider-Versecame up, reiterated by Holland who followed up with, “Love them and I’m just waiting for the phone call. Guys, call us. Put us in your movie, we want to be in it.” Brushing past the fact that only one oftheSpider-Versemovieshas actually come out so far, leading many fellow pedantic grammar people to question the stars' plural use of “movies,” it turns out that this isn’t the first time the subject has been brought up to the 2 of them.
“Amy actually asked me on the set of this movie and no one has come back to me,” Holland added, referring toAmy Pascal who produces theSpider-Manmovies. So this isn’t some notion that just came out of thin air. Odds are, it’s going to happen eventually, since it’s not likely that someone like Pascal would bring up such a huge proposition with no intention of following through. Even Jacob Batalon, who plays Ned in theSpider-Manfilms, expressed his interest in the idea, completing the trifecta of stars ready to make the move to 2D.
Considering the massive reach of both the live-action and animatedSpider-Manmovies, both in terms of audience and in-universe elements, the possibility of seeing characters from either side of things appear in the other feels like more of a “when” scenario rather than “if.” TheSpider-Verseseries already has at least 2 more movies in its future, and there have been indications thatHolland will star in moreSpider-ManmoviesafterNo Way Home. So considering Marvel’s tendency to keep getting bigger with every phase, such a crossover seems inevitable.
However, such things might take a little while to take form. After all, while Marvel loves to dream big, it also loves to plan way too far in advance. So any fans waiting to see a big animated and live-action crossover that would putRoger Rabbitto shame might want to settle in for the long haul.
