Square Enix’s live service gameBabylon’s Fallis the latest in a long line of other titles in the genre, with it being developed by PlatinumGames. The developer is most famous for adrenaline-fueled action games, with standout examples being theBayonettaseries,Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, andNier: Automata.Nier: Automatawas a notable collaboration between Square Enix and Platinum Games, andBabylon’s Fallhas a similar hack-and-slash combat system toAutomatawhile also being an action-RPG. There is even aBabylon’s FallandNier Automatacollaborationbeing held for players to participate in for a limited time.
However, the game is seeing very little fanfare and has a tepid reception critically and commercially, with many reviews being on the lower end of the spectrum. While some of these reviews praised its combat, they also lambasted the game’s structure and progression system. This is evident withBabylon’s Fall’s rough launch on PC, with very few players playing the game concurrently. With this unfavorable reception, it’s no surprise that the few players who were playing the game have left as time went on.

According to SteamCharts, there are roughly about a hundred concurrent players on average playingBabylon’s Fallevery day. However, the website reveals that the game had previously reached a new all-time low in terms of concurrent player count. Looking at the statistics for the game, it notes that at one point last week on April 12, only eight people were playing the game at the same time.
Theissues withBabylon’s Fallcontinue to linger around the game, and their impact can clearly be seen with the player count decreasing in comparison to last month. SteamCharts reports that the peak of March 2022 was barely over 1100 concurrent players, averaging around 267 players every day. In comparison, as of this writing, the average concurrent player count in the last 30 days has been a total of 136, with the peak amount of players being 509, roughly half of March’s peak.
Despite the dwindling player count and apathy from fans, the developer has stated that it will continue work on the game. This includestwo more seasons of content forBabylon’s Fall, which will bring a new game mode while also updating the difficulty of certain quests and modes. These new seasons of content are intended to bring in new players and keep the ones who are still playing hooked, but based on how few players are hopping on every day, this outcome seems unlikely.
Babylon’s Fallis available now for PC, PS4, and PS5.
