Starfieldfeatures four major cities on four separate planets. One of these is Akila City, the headquarters of the Freestar Rangers. Players can come straight here if they want to join the Rangers faction, but they may be surprised by what they find along the way.
Between the port and the Rangers building is the local branch of GalBank, where a standoff is taking place. Akila is the Western-themed city ofStarfield, and true to form a gang of bank robbers are currently inside, holding the staff and the customers hostage. Players thus have a chance to prove themselves to the Rangers by doing something about this situation.

How to Start the Mission
As the mission begins, players will overhear Marshal Daniel talking to the bank robbers, who are using an intercom by the front door to communicate. Once they’re done, players should head straight up to Daniel and offer to help. He won’t like the idea, but he’ll accept if players insist.
Daniel will then name the player as his negotiator, and the objective marker will highlight the intercom by the front door. This door is locked and needs a key, so head straight for the intercom. Players may want to save before speaking, because there are three ways this mission can go.
Convince the Robbers to Give Up
During the initial conversation with the robbers, players can attempt to Persuade the leader twice. The first attemptis an eight-point Persuasion, but it’s not critical. The second attempt is also eight points (or six points if the previous Persuasion worked), and if players pass this one the robbers will give up and turn themselves in peacefully.
Marshal Daniel will be very impressed if players pull this off, and he’ll give themthe mission rewards of 3,800 creditsand 150 XP. He’ll also suggest the player join the Freestar Rangers, starting the quest “Deputized.” Players can then enter GalBank to find the employees back at work and the robbers all held in the back by a couple Rangers.

Enter the Front Door
If the Persuasion attempt fails, or if players avoid it, Marshal Daniel will decide to use force and give players two choices for getting inside. The obvious method is to get in through the front door by asking to see the hostages, but the bank robbers won’t let the player in if they’re armed. Players can get around this problem by Persuading the leader to let them in armed, or they cangive all their weapons to a companionand then take them back once inside the bank. Note that throwable weapons count as being armed.
Negotiation is over, so it’s up to players to decide when and where to start shooting. The Shaw Gang members in the bank are extremely weak, and so even a starting player with a weak weapon can make short work of them. All the hostages are in the basement vault, and fortunately the gang won’t kill them once the player opens fire. In fact, the hostages are unkillable even if players intentionally target them. Doing sowill cause the city guards to become hostile, but players can still speak to Daniel to complete the mission and get the same reward.
Sneak In Through the Back
The last way to handle this mission is to sneak in through the back door. Marshal Daniel happens to have a key to the back door, and players can use it to get into the bank while fully armed. However, the Shaw Gang members will be hostile the moment they spot the player.
Combat characters can run in guns blazing, but stealthy characters have another option. They can jump off the side of the stairs they start on, because underneath them is a vent door. This vent leads to a raised position in the middle of the bank, the perfect spot from which to ambush the gang.
One side benefit to the second two methods is the fact that all the bank inhabitants are stuck in the vault. This means no one is around to spot the player steal from the bank after the Shaw Gang members are down. Aside from that, there’s no real difference between the three methods.
