Building and crafting are the souls of anysurvival game. But with construction comes another need: to deconstruct. Unfortunately, deconstruction inStranded Deepis not as straightforward as inThe Planet Crafter, and it takes a while for beginners to get their heads around the idea.

Because the game comes with no manual, survivors must figure out how to remove their arduously crafted items. That is, of course, if they don’t use the following guide. Here’sa simple introduction toStranded Deep’s deconstruction.

How to Deconstruct in Stranded Deep

To deconstruct an item inStranded Deep, hit it with an axe or knife. The item will break down after a few strikes and disappear. But it will not refund all the materials used in the crafting.

Currently, there is no way to disassemble a crafted tool or potion, and the only way to get rid of one is by abandoning or using it.

Note that breakable items do not react to axe or knife hits. So, one might think that deconstruction is not working. But don’t mind the lack of animation; keep striking until the item is removed.

What Happens to Deconstructed Items

When players destroy an object inStranded Deep, it fades away with no debris left behind. However, survivors with a crafting level of 7 get back some parts of the materials. The refund is automatic and is added to the inventory upon destruction.

UnlikeThe Sims 4’s Build Mode,Stranded Deephas no Break Tool. The entire disassembly and refund process is organic, and it’s best to check the inventory after each deconstruction to keep track of recovered materials.

Why Some Items Are Indestructible

InStranded Deep, items that support other constructions are indestructible. For example, a wall carrying a roof can’t be removed unless the roof is destroyed first. Likewise, placing wood containers - or other comparable items - on the flooring makes it non-breakable.

As a rule, empty the area and move dependable objects before starting the deconstruction. Otherwise, the game assumes something is still mounted to the object and prevents removal.

The Raft Base Deconstruction Issue

Lots of players have problems deconstructing their raft bases. This is a known issue inStranded Deep, one that the developers are aware of. Currently, a workaround is to flip the raft base over and deconstruct it while it’s upside down.

Stranded Deepis available now for PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch.
