AskGamblers analyzed Google search data to come up with a list of the 15 most popular horror games thisHalloween season. Right off the bat, one might take issue with this study because of the inclusion ofMortal Kombat 11.Mortal Kombat 11is an incredibly gory and violent game, but that does not make it a horror game. LabelingMortal Kombat 11a horror game is a big stretch, and so one has to wonder what other game would have made the list hadMK11not taken up a spot.
Otherwise, the list is relatively unsurprising, except one would thinkThe Last of Uswould rank higher considering the hype around the HBO TV series and the fact thatThe Last of UsPS5 remakereleased just a month ago.Dead by DaylightandPhasmophobiataking the top spots is otherwise unsurprising, as they remain two of the most-talked about games in the genre, and their multiplayer elements give them longer legs than single-player horror games.
The methodology of using Google search data does not necessarily mean that these games are the most popular this Halloween season, however. While it’s likely true thatDead by DaylightandPhasmophobiawill be two of the most-played horror games this month,Bloodborne’s inclusion so high up on the list likely has more to do with people looking up the possibility of aBloodbornePS5 remake.
