Summary
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leagueannouncing that new playable characters would be added post-launch was maybe one of the smartest choices Rocksteady made, and it was a subtle one as part of the official gameplay showcase it aired before its latest delay. It’s true that a fair bit might change between development, launch, and beyond, especially ifRocksteady’s delay of theSuicide Squadwas intended to reevaluate certain features. But new characters would be a wonderful idea if it’s to maintain its emphasis on four-player co-op, and there are already many prime candidates.
Perhaps the top choice for a playable character would beDeathstroke, who debuted inArkham Origins. Deathstroke was easily a standout in the WB Games Montreal’s prequel installment despite not being around for long, and although he was reprised in Rocksteady’sArkham Knighthe wasn’t brought back in a fulfilling way since his appearance boiled down to a militia tank battle. Therefore, his appearance as a playable character inSuicide Squadcould be gratifying. However, one character who has appeared now in literally everyArkhamgame may not have as much of a chance to be featured.

Killer Croc is Far from His Arkham Origins Prime
Arkham’s Killer Crochas had multiple looks and having been in every entry it would be fantastic to see Waylon Jones as a playable character inKill the Justice League’s DLC. Croc’s original appearance inArkham Asylumdepicted him as a towering, ravenous creature, and the encounter players have with him in his lair is truly intimidating as tip-toeing is advised. Croc’s return inArkham Cityis a small Easter egg many fans could easily miss while exiting from the sewers after fighting Ra’s al Ghul, but it is substantial since Batman actually speaks with him instead of simply seeing evidence of him having been there.
Croc then appeared inArkham Origins, portrayed as much younger and slimmer with more of a humanoid pugilist aesthetic. In what was his most drastic visual change, though,Arkham Knightportrayed him as an enormous monster with horrifying yellow eyes and a body that was misshapen with a long tail. Having also evolved to develop spikes along his scaly hide, it’s learned that Croc and other creatures were being traumatically experimented on at Iron Heights penitentiary.
Arkham Knight’s Killer Croc is Grotesque But Stretched Thin
This is an empathetic and saddening take on the antagonist who was fairly straightforward as a character beforehand, and like Mr. Freeze’s own closure inArkham Knight, it is terrific to see Croc get a worthwhile character development, even if now he is in a more tragic condition. Croc still shows no signs of wanting to turn over any new leaves, but he is definitely on the path to redemption with a sympathetic reason to want to help him. Either way, Croc would’ve otherwise made an incredible post-launch character addition inKill the Justice League, but his arc may be over now.
Croc would be another brute character alongside King Shark and that could be an incentive for Rocksteady to have two characters with similar playstyles, but Croc isn’t the creature he once was. It might be better at this point to let Croc retire and recover from the torture he endured instead, though playing as him and crawling on all fours through hordes of Brainiac aliens could be incredibly fun. It would also make sense for Croc to wield heavy weapons that Shark can, and Rocksteady has three previous games of material to look through for ideas of abilities that Croc could uniquely possess inKill the Justice League’s shooter gameplay.
