Actress Cristin Milioti will star alongside Colin Farrell in the upcoming HBO Max limited seriesThe Penguin. The series is a spinoff of the 2022 filmThe Batmanandfollows the titular DC Comics villain portrayed by Farrell.

The Penguinwill reportedly pick up several months after the events ofThe Batman. Near the end of the film,Mafia boss Carmine Falcone is assassinated byPaul Dano’s the Riddler, which creates a power vacuum in Gotham City’s criminal underworld. In the film, Farrell’s Penguin is Falcone’s right-hand man, so he will likely be eager to seize power in his old boss' absence, but if Milioti’s character is even half as vicious in the series as she is in the comics, fans are in for a long and brutal fight for control of Gotham City.

As reported byDeadline, Milioti will play Sofia Falcone, the daughter of mafia boss Carmine Falcone, portrayed by John Turturro in the film. There are few details regarding the plot for the HBO Max limited series, but according to Deadline, the series will see Sofia fighting against Farrell’s Penguin for control of Gotham city. Executive produced byThe Batmandirector Matt Reeves, the series is said to be set in the aftermath of the film and will explore the power vacuum in Gotham City’s criminal underworld.

Created by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale, Sofia first appeared inthe Batman comic storylineThe Long Halloween,where she assists her father in discovering the identity of the Holliday killer, who is later revealed to be her own brother, Alberto Falcone. The character also appeared in the fourth season of the Fox TV seriesGotham, where she was portrayed by actress Crystal Reed. She was also featured in the animated film adaptation of theLong Halloweencomic book, where she was voiced by actress Laila Berzins.
