Summary
Prior to Topaz’s release,Honkai: Star Railhad yet to have a featured fire five-star character. This already makes her pretty special, but she’s alsoHonkai: Star Rail’s second feature Hunt character after Seele, who came out atHonkai: Star Rail’s launch with Jing Yuan. Topaz’s kit isn’t much like Seele’s though, looking more like a Kafka or Jing Yuan style of combat. She’s more catered to a sub-DPS role, which also makes her pretty unique.
Most times, when a character is released, they’re either a clear Healer, Support, or DPS unit; becoming a sub-DPS is typically an extra benefit. And though players could use her as one ofHonkai: Star Rail’sDPSsor Supports due to her kits' capabilities, Topaz is a much better fit to be a sub-DPS for players. She’s extremely compatible with follow-up attackers as well, boosting their damage the way a Support would.

Honkai: Star Rail’s Topaz’s Kit
The most important thing to note about Topaz and Numby’s kit is that both her skill and normal attack are considered to be follow-up attacks. Another thing interesting about her kit, specifically her skill, is that it will always target an enemy on the field with or without the player doing anything. This makes her incredibly skill-point friendly, especially when compared to skill-point-hungry units likeDan Heng: Imbibitor Lunae. The only concern to keep in mind is that if it does not apply to the intended enemy, players will need to switch it to their ideal target.
As a single-target damage dealer, she does have some concerns since many ofHonkai: Star Rail’s enemies either spawn minions or come in bunches. However, buildingTopaz and Numby’s team compsright will lessen that concern. Pairing her with other follow-up attackers is ideal, especially since she buffs follow-up attacks with her skill, which is always active. Speaking of Numby, the warp trotter works similarly to Jing Yuan’s Lightning-Lord. Though Numby cannot be directly buffed, being able to use Topaz’s burst will push his turn up by 50% and his DMG is significantly increased. It’s best to use her ultimate before Numby’s turn comes.
WhenbuildingHonkai: Star Rail’s Topaz, players should rely on typical DPS stats, especially ATK. Her kit scales with it, so balancing that with good crit stats and anything else the player needs is ideal. Using other units to buff her attack is also a good investment. Iconic units like Tingyun and Bronya would do well with her, though players should prioritize Tingyun’s place on the team since it’s better to have follow-up attacks like Clara on the team instead of Bronya.
Outside of battle life, Topaz increases quality of life as well. When using her technique, she’ll call out Numby who will search for basic treasures and other trotters around the player. When used before attacking an enemy, Numby will restore 60 energy to Topaz once, which is great since her ultimate costs 130 energy. Like this, energy recharge becomes less of a priority for theHonkai: Star Railfire unit. This technique also works in Simulated Universe, giving players more cosmic fragments and, if players are lucky, a random curio.
