The WitcherTV show on Netflix is out now. And while the Netflix show may be receiving mixed reviews, it appears to be making a lot of newWitcherfans nonetheless. Watchful fans ofThe Witcher 3have noticed that withThe Witcher’s debut on Netflix,The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s player count on Steam leaped forward. And each day since,The Witcher 3’s total concurrent players has increased. It’s a new renaissance forThe Witcher, thanks to the TV show.

Valve’s Steam platformprovides a tracking website featuring the top 100 games each day. It only provides concurrent player data and a game’s peak player count in the past 24 hours, which is relatively limiting, but it’s interesting nonetheless. As of December 23,The Witcher 3has climbed up to the 14th most-played game on Steam. That’s just aboveRed Dead Redemption 2, which should add some perspective regarding how big the surge is.

As for an exact player count,The Witcher 3is currently peaking at around an impressive 49,500 concurrent players. Today’s peak is the highest yet, which could mean that it’s likely total players will continue climbing going forward.Concurrent player counts, even over a span of time, aren’t a great way to measure total players. Yet given how high the concurrent player count is, total players should be in the hundreds of thousands.

Exactly why players are surging back toThe Witcher 3isn’t exactly clear, beyond the obvious brand connection. The WitcherNetflix show isn’t actually connected toThe Witchervideo game franchise, after all. However,The WitcherNetflix seriesis rather short for the time being. WhereasThe Witcher 3can provide dozens of hours and excellent epic story. There are definitely worse criticisms than leaving fans wanting more ofThe Witcheras soon as possible.

Netflix must be seeing the exact same thing that we are, thatThe Witcherviewers are excited for more ofThe Witcher, since the show has already been renewed for a second season. Perhaps CD Projekt Red is taking note, too. Maybe after the studio responsible forThe Witchergame franchise is done withCyberpunk 2077, it will return to the world of Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri once more. There’s clearly a lot of fans who want nothing more than to spend more time in the world.
