In the weeks since the first season ofThe Witcherdropped onto Netflix, fans have been dreaming about what future seasons will bring, and for many, one of the things they hope to see isactor Mark Hamill play Vesemir, Geralt’s elderly but capable mentor. It’s become a popular-enough hope online that the series’ showrunner, Lauren Hissrich, has touched upon the possibility.
Without going into specifics, Vesemir only makes a brief appearance inThe Witcher’s first season, and even then it’s a young version played by Theo James (Divergent). This leaves the door open for the older version fans know and love to debut in a big way in the future, and since 2018,Mark Hamill has expressed interest in playing Vesemiron multiple occasions. This has left fans excited at the prospect of the man behind Luke Skywalker and many beloved versions of the Joker potentially leaving his mark on a show as popular asThe Witcher.

For this reason, Hissrich was asked about it by IGN. Explaining that she’s a “hugeStar Warsfan,” she said that Hamill was always “of interest to me and interest to the project” ever since she learned of his interest inThe Witcher. “It was one of those firstWitchermoments for me where I was like, ‘oh my God, is this even possible? That Mark Hamill knows what this is and would be interested in doing that?”
However, Hissrich made it clear that the show’s production team hasn’t contacted Hamill or his agent yet, reiterating recent tweets from Hamill himself on the matter. As for why, she said that they’re “not casting the role quite yet.” She went on, “that being said, I am loving what’s happening on the internet. And I’m loving all of the fan reaction to it. Obviously, we’ve seenwhat a huge fanbaseThe Witcherhas, and to add that to aStar Warsfanbase… it makes my mind explode a little bit.”
Whether Mark Hamill ultimately gets the role orsome other well-known actor ends up playing Vesemir, fans are going to have to wait a while before they get moreWitcher, as season 2 ofThe Witcher’s won’t premiere until 2021. But on the plus side, that should give Hamill and the production team more time to possibly work something out and hopefully give fans what they want. Needless to say, the thought of Hamill interacting with Henry Cavil’s Geralt is certainly an interesting one.
