As of now, fans know little about CD Projekt Red’s plans for the next entry inThe Witcherfranchise. With Geralt’s story wrapped up with the third game, though, the developer’s options are a bit more limited when it comes to the follow-up. If it were to be a sequel, playing as Cirior a new character would be the way to go. A prequel also works, with a random Witcher, Vesemir, or even Geralt himself being playable.
Regardless of which routeThe Witchertakes with its next entry, a lot can be gained from using the short stories that established the series. While some stories are great, not all would work well in video game form, with “A Little Sacrifice” being a prime example. Still, there are two particular tales that would be worth seeing in video game form, with one being perfect for a main quest and the other being deserving of a side quest. With one of the comic book stories also being a solid fit for a game, CD Projekt Red could look there for inspiration as well.

The Lesser Evil
IfThe Witcher 4ends up being a Geralt-focused prequel, there is no avoiding the story “The Lesser Evil.” A defining moment in Geralt’s Witcher career, seeing the tragic end to his relationship with Renfri would surely carry a lot of impact. WhileThe WitcherNetflix seriesdid this story justice, players being forced to land the killing blow on Renfri could make the moment feel even more devastating. The final fight against Renfri’s forces could serve as a great tutorial moment for the game’s combat, as Geralt cuts through them with ease in the books. Renfri’s boss fight could be the first real test for players, and seeing Geralt labeled as the Butcher of Blaviken could be a memorable way to kick off the game. With this story doing so much to establish the tone of the books and show, it could do the same for a game.
A Grain Of Truth
On a slightly less serious note, seeing “A Grain of Truth” brought to life could be a great side adventure for Geralt. It would also work with any other Witcher, meaning that it could be easily adapted in a Ciri-focused sequel as well. The tale is essentially a darker version of Beauty and the Beast, with Geralt meeting a bear-like monster called Nivellen that lives in a magic house. In their meeting, he finds out about the curse, with some predictable elements like love being the way to break the spell being revealed. However, Nivellen eventually mentions his sleeping problems, something being caused by a Bruxa. After killing the female vampire, the curse is lifted, and Geralt goes on his way. Standing out due to Nivellen’s personality, the story is being adapted inThe WitcherSeason 2. A game should adapt it as well, with the tale being the perfect length for a great side quest — and the bruxa battle being the best possible way to cap it off.
House of Glass
Finally, there is the comic book story arc “House of Glass.” Essentially a haunted house story, Geralt finds himself trapped in a mansion. While the story about the widowed man and his undead wife is a fine hook for a quest, it is the House of Glass itself that would be the best part about a video game adaptation. If done correctly, it could be a more expansive and intense version of the Fyke Isle Tower fromThe Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. WhileThe Witcherfranchiseis not inherently horror-focused, some of the third game’s best missions had some big scares. A “House of Glass” mission could deliver plenty of them, and much like “A Grain of Truth,” it would work just as well without Geralt of Rivia. With the length of the comic allowing the story to be a side quest or main quest, too, CD Projekt Red would have some flexibility with its design.
