A documentary about the development of Neversoft’sTony Hawk’s Pro Skater(THPS) games failed to reach itsIndiegogo crowdfunding goal of $75,000in 2017. At the time, its producers said they would still be moving forward on the project, and Tony Hawk himself announced on Instagram Tuesday that the first screening of the finished documentary would be shown at the Mammoth Film Festival on February 29.
Pretending I’m a Superman, which focuses on theTony Hawk’s Pro Skaterfranchise that came to prominence after its first title was published by Activision in 1999, was created by Swedish director Ludvig Gur and former Neversoft producer Ralph D’Amato. In the Indiegogo campaign posted by D’Amato, another former Neversoft producer named Scott Pease and professional skateboarder Rodney Mullen are featured interviewees alongside Hawk.

Though thatcrowdfunding campaign only hit 23 percent of its goalthree years ago, it has continued to update backers about progress on the documentary; most recently letting them know about the upcoming Mammoth Film Festival premiere. In his Instagram announcement, Hawk says the screening will include a discussion panel featuring Mullen and the filmmakers, as well as an afterparty withTHPScover band The Downhill Jam.

ThePro Skaterfranchise, largely spearheaded by Hawk until he announced he was no longer working with Activision in 2018, is fondly remembered by many for having solid titles with good music, fun easter egg characters, and extensive cheat codes. Rumors circulated in 2019 thatActivision would be remakingPro Skater 1and2, but nothing concrete has surfaced since.
