TheTwitch Rivalsevent was back this year, with some of the platform’s top streamers converging to compete in various games and other challenges in Las Vegas, Nevada on November 5 and 6. One of the participants was popularTwitchstreamer Maya, who was the subject of one of the more awkward moments from the event.

During the Twitch Rivals event, Maya was talking to fellow streamerQTCinderellawhen she said that she needed to go to the bathroom. However, Maya wasn’t sure what the protocol was to get up and use the restroom, and so she raised her hand to ask one of the event’s employees. In the clip, the employee can be seen talking to another Twitch staffer, who shakes their head “no.” Maya’s then given the news and reacted by saying, “Oh f***, okay.” Maya then started laughing to herself and said with disbelief, “I’m not allowed to pee?”

An interaction like this normally wouldn’t drum up all that much attention, but a clip of it has amassed over 160,000 views at the time of this writing. It seems one of the reasons why this incident is getting so much attention is because of the fact thatAmazon owns Twitch, and there have been numerous scathing reports about how the massive company has mistreated employees, particularly when it comes to its bathroom break rules.

Over the years, Amazon employees have complained about not being able to use the bathroom when necessary, to the point where some have had to urinate in bottles. Amazon itself has denied these reports, though there is plenty of evidence suggesting that situations like that happen. So Amazon’s reputation for being so strict that it doesn’t allow warehouse employees to take bathroom breaks when necessary has led to this clip ofMayagetting extra attention - people are using it as a satirical example of Amazon not letting someone take a bathroom break yet again.

As for why Maya was not allowed to take a bathroom break in this particular instance, she apparently had to participate in an interview shortly and there wasn’t enough time. This isn’t the same as Amazon warehouse employees allegedly being denied bathroom breaks, but some may still take issue with a person being denied the right to go to the bathroom when they need to regardless. The reported treatment of Amazon warehouse employees is part of the reason why there have been talks aboutAmazon employees forming a union, though that has yet to actually happen.
