Far Cry 6andRainbow Six Quarantinewere set to be major video game releases in early 2021, but that is no longer the case. Ubisoft has officially announced delays for the highly-anticipatedFar Cry 6and theRainbow Sixspin-off via a conference call, pointing to issues caused by COVID-19 as the reason for the delays.
A transcript of the conference call posted by industry insider Daniel Ahmad highlights the delay announcement, with Ubisoft saying “production challenges caused by COVID-19” have caused the games to have their release dates moved. While the company has yet to decide on new release dates forFar Cry 6and thehorror-focusedRainbow Six Quarantine, a general release window was provided for both games.

BothRainbow Six QuarantineandFar Cry 6are now set to release after April 2021, but before March 2022 - a lengthy release window that offers Ubisoft flexibility to choose new launch dates. While these delays due to the coronavirus are likely disappointing for some fans, they could be blessings in disguise that ultimately lead to more polished games. After all,Ubisoft’s tight release schedulewas likely a tough task forFar Cry 6’s team to manage, and the extra time could allow them to ensure the game delivers.
As forRainbow Six Quarantine, little has been said regarding the co-op shooter since its reveal. Fans do haveOperator requests forQuarantinehowever, so hopefully Ubisoft uses the extra development time wisely to make sure players’ voices are heard. The concept of a horror-basedRainbow Sixgame is interesting, and three player co-op as opposed to the standard two or four players is also unique. The game’s developers should now have more time to ensure the title delivers, even if it means fans are kept in the dark a bit longer.
It is worth noting Ubisoft confirmed within the conference call that all its other major games are on schedule to meet their release dates.Assassin’s Creed Valhalla,Just Dance 2021, andImmortals Fenyx Risingwill all still release this year. ThePrince of PersiaRemake is also on track to meet its January release date, though Ubisoft has had to publicly address manycomplaints about the graphics inPrince of Persia.
ThoughRainbow Six QuarantineandFar Cry 6delays do require a change in Ubisoft’s plans for 2021, the company should be able to find new dates that work well for the games given its large release window.
