Slowly but surely, after a couple of years of purely digital events due to the COVID-19 pandemic, gaming showcases are on their way back to having physical audiences. The 2021 Game Awards had a mix of a physical and digital attendance, and it seems that2022’s Gamescomwill follow suit, hoping to be the largest in-person gaming event of the year following E3’s cancellation. Even with the month of June bringing so many announcements to gamers, August is shaping up to be a big month for video games too, withUbisoftconfirming an appearance at the live show.
Ubisoftconfirming its appearance at Gamescom 2022 will likely help give fans a reason to watch the event, as with Nintendo and PlayStation both dropping out, it seemed that other major industry heavy hitters could be giving the showcase a miss as well. However, with PlayStation and Nintendo preferring to host their own events via State of Plays or Nintendo Directs, it does make sense that the platform owners would skip a third-party event such as Gamescom in a similar fashion to this year’s Summer Games Fest.

While fans are likely to be hyped to see what upcoming games Ubisoft is working on, especially after the publisher announced it was working on multiple new AAA titles, one of its major franchises may be missing Gamescom.Assassin’s Creedseems to have a bright future ahead of it, with the next gameAssassin’s Creed Riftseemingly all but confirmed, and the ambitiousAssassin’sCreed Infinitylooking more promising as time goes on. However, it is unlikely that Ubisoft’s show at Gamescom will feature any of the historical action games.
This is likely due to the fact thatAssassin’s Creedannounced its own event in September this year. With Gamescom taking place in August, it seems redundant to have a load ofAssassin’s Creednews dropped so close to when the franchise will have its own event. However, there are plenty of announced Ubisoft titles to look forward to besidesAssassin’s Creed. It seems likely that there will be an official confirmation on aSkull and Bonesrelease dateafter the game was recently rated by the ESRB. Also, there’sAvatar: Frontiers of Pandora, which is expected to release within the next nine months or so.
Beyond games that Ubisoft has already announced, there are a few titles which could be officially revealed at Gamescom too. Games like asequel toImmortals: Fenyx RisingandThe Crew 3were rumored to be in the works earlier this year, so it may be time for a proper reveal of those titles. Even withoutAssassin’s Creedthen, it seems Ubisoft has plenty of possibilities for Gamescom.
