Sophia Ati and Tati Gabrielle have also reportedly joined the cast, though their characters also have yet to be announced. Variety has also revealed the newUnchartedmovie director. A number of directors have been attached to theUnchartedmovie over the years, but the film has settled on Ruben Fleischer, known for directingZombielandand its sequel, as well as the financially successfulVenommovie. Fleischer is replacingBumblebeedirector Travis Knight, who had to drop out of the project due to scheduling conflicts with Tom Holland’s Marvel Cinematic Universe obligations.

It was previously reported in January that Fleischer wasSony’s top choice forUnchartedmovie directorafter Knight dropped out, so it’s not too surprising to learn that he will in fact be working on the film.

Now that theUnchartedmovie has a director, more cast members, and is set to start filming soon, more information on it should start coming to light. As it stands, all we know about theUnchartedmovie from a plot standpoint is that it will be aprequel to the Naughty Dog games, and that it will take inspiration fromUncharted 4: A Thief’s End. Further plot details are unavailable, though fans shouldn’t expect a direct adaptation of any of the game plot lines.

In the meantime, it will be interesting to see if theUnchartedmovie is able to keep the video game movie adaptation momentum going strong. Video game movies were once written off completely, but the success of films likeDetective PikachuandSonic the Hedgehoghas shown that quality video game adaptations are possible. Considering how cinematic theUnchartedvideo gamesalready are, it seems like it should be even easier to adapt to the big screen, but fans will have to wait for its 2021 premiere to find out for sure.

Unchartedwill premiere in theaters on July 10, 2025.
