Kat Dennings' originally thought her return to the MCU inWandaVisionwas basically going to be as a cameo. The actress believed her character,Darcy Lewis was originally going to be in a scene or twobefore she eventually made her exit again.
Darcy Lewis was originally introduced inThorand also appeared inThor: Dark World. However, Dennings' character eventually faded into the background. The character didn’t even return when the Avengers series wrapped up inInfinity WarandEndgame. That’s why the actor believed she was done with the Marvel Cinematic Universe entirely, until the day she got a call to appear onWandaVision.

Even when the Dennings did get the call she assumed her return was only going to be a “scene or two.” Especially once she found out what show she was going to be on, since Darcy Lewis hadnever interacted with either of the main characters onWandaVisionbefore. The actor divulged her surprise while speaking on a panel with the SAG-AFTRA Foundation.
Dennings said she knew that Marvel was doing a bunch of television shows for Disney+ and when she got the call to appear she knew it had to be one of those. But when she got asked to appear, she assumed Darcy would make a short appearance where she would just “come in and explain something,” and then leave again. She added that when she heard she wasgoing to be onWandaVision, she racked her brain on what the tie-in to Darcy could possibly be. Originally expecting to just be in a scene or two, Dennings added that she was delighted when she found out how many episodes Darcy appeared in and how central to the plot the character became.
It turns out that Darcy Lewis was rather important when it came tofiguring out what was going on inWandaVision. She was brought in by S.W.O.R.D in order to decipher where Wanda and the Vision had gone, as well as why there was a giant red energy field engulfing an entire New Jersey town. Eventually, she entered the field and helped the Vision to talk Wanda into releasing the people who lived there from her spell.
With the first - and potentially only - season ofWandaVisionin the books, it’s not clear if Kat Dennings is going to continue to be a part of the MCU. While the Disney+ series is rumored to be spawning a movie spinoff, it’s not clear if Darcy would be needed for her scientific prowess there.
