On February 25, the teams at Treyarch and Raven Studios will deliver the long-awaited Season 2 update to bothBlack Ops Cold WarandWarzonepromising significant changes, updates, and improvements to both blockbuster titles. Though little has been teased, fans are already coming up with their own wishlists and theories as to what Season 2 holds for the future.
10An Entirely New Map
Warzoneplayers have been duking it out on the original map of Verdansk since June 24, 2025. Though the map has undergone several changes (including the climactic opening of the stadium), the overall feel and gameplay loop have stayed the same.Every location brings its own challengesand sights, but players are definitely ready for some new locales.

Thetrailer showcasingBlack Ops’next seasonis set in a heavily jungled area covered with dense bushes and hilly terrain. This is unlike anyplace currently in Verdansk, and players believe this is going to replace Verdansk as the new primary map inWarzone.
9Major Changes To Verdansk
Though Verdansk has grown stale for many players, many more would still like to see it in rotation. Though it has been highly hinted that a new map is coming, many fans think Verdansk will stay in the game but be changed in a big way.
Older leakshave pointed towards a more mountainous map or addition to Verdansk, but the new Season 2 roadmap has many fans thinking that Verdansk is soon going to see a lot more water. In the top left corner of the roadmap, fans noticed the text saying, “A dark wave approaches Verdansk” and many think that part of the map may become flooded, completely overhauling how it is played.
8Dirty Bomb Integration
During the open beta ofBlack Ops: Cold War, players were divided on the 40-player wide-scale multiplayer mode called Fireteam: Dirty Bomb. At one point, there was a lot of buzz surrounding the game mode but it has since faded into obscurity, not attracting nearly the same attention that it did when announced.
Though the mode didn’t have 150 players likeWarzone, it still offered a large-scale conflict where teams would battle to be the last one standing with the most points. Points were gained by collecting uranium and arming dirty bombs, effectively closing portions of the map until all the players were forced into aclose-quarters fightfor the ages. Many fans think Dirty Bomb could be overhauled and integrated into Season 2.
7Large Scale Team Mode
The video game industry is very aware of itself. Developers realize when things work and when things don’t (usually). Because of this, some fans think that Season 2 will bring in a new large-scale team-based mode toWarzone. Many battle royale games beforeWarzonehave played with 50 vs 50 modes or the equivalent of splitting the lobby into two teams.

ForWarzonespecifically, this could mean a 75 vs 75 mode that’s potentially more than just a large-scale team deathmatch (sorry Warzone Rumble). This would completelychange the strategy players have built playingWarzoneover the last year and offer some surely incredible set-piece moments.
6Meta Changing Weapons
Fans are expecting a meta-changing weapon more than they’re theorizing that one “might” be added. Nearly every season has brought an incredible weapon to the fight that shakes up the established meta. Last season brought the incredibly powerful Mac-10 (which was eventually nerfed a bit) and the prior season introduced the SP-R 208 which was actually broken on release.
Though these guns eventually get balanced, they still often end up changing the meta. The Mac-10, SP-R 208, and Bruen LMG were all changed and nerfed after their initial releases but remain as top-level picks for competitive loadouts. Because of this, fans are expecting a new weapon to completely change up the current sniper-focused meta.
5Animation Changes
Winning a battle royale is never easy. It requires skill (or really great teammates) and good coordination. Wins don’t come often for most players, and that’s what makes the end game animation so much sweeter. Flying away from the gas-filled battlefieldwith your squadand having the names proudly displayed on the screen makes players feel like action movie heroes.

Fans are hoping that some endgame animations get added showcasing their skins, operators, and names in more environments than the default helicopter that has saved them from Verdansk so many times.Black Ops: Cold Warhas plenty of neat intro animations to every map in regular multiplayer, so it isn’t a huge jump to think that similar animations might be added with Season 2.
4Boats & Swimming
In the previous version of aCall of Dutybattle royale,Blackoutplayers were able to swim and pilot boats. Unlike other battle royale games, players could even fire their weapons from under the surface of the water, allowing for interesting and bold ambush opportunities.
With some fans thinking parts of Verdansk might become flooded, others are now thinking thatBlackout’sold water combat system may make a return in Season 2. Players can already pilot several different boats inBlack Ops: Cold War’s multiplayer modes and many people are looking forward to possibly experiencing this new form of travel inWarzone.
3Hints For Modern Warfare 2
ThoughCall of Dutyis split into two different storylines by Treyarch and Infinity Ward,Black Ops: Cold WarandWarzonehave hinted that the two may happen in the same universe. The developers at Infinity Ward will reference the games made by Treyarch and vice-versa. Thus, it’s no surprise that fans are expecting easter eggs or hints at 2021’sCall of Dutygame, which will be made by Infinity Ward.
It’s currently unknown whether or not Infinity Ward will be continuing theirModern Warfarereboot, but fans are hopeful for some hints towards its existence in Season 2.Modern Warfare 2holds a special place in the hearts of many gamers who remember it for its toxic lobbies, zany multiplayer loadouts, endless memes, and the hard-hitting campaign.
2Zombies?
Halloween of 2020 brought a brand new mode toWarzonewhere players would become zombies after dying. They had a chance to fight the living and regain their humanity, returning to fight with their squads once more. As the event was well-liked by most players, it is not a stretch to imagine that zombies could be returning toWarzonewith Season 2.

Treyarch’sCall of Dutygames are known primarily for their zombie modes. A ton of development time goes into crafting the zombie modes and fans are expecting to see someBlack Ops-style zombies somewhere inWarzonein Season 2.
1Attachment Overhauls
Many fans are desperately hoping that Raven Studios and Treyarch will be fixing the weapon attachments in Season 2. Currently, the weapon attachments forCold Warweapons are fundamentally broken inWarzone. Some don’t do what they say they do while others do the complete opposite of what they say.
Players are relying on content creators and community leaders to figure out what exactly theCold Warattachments do. Season 2 has promised improvements, which will hopefully include fixing the broken weapon attachments forWarzone. Players are frustrated that their win rates and success is getting jeopardized by these broken attachments, and Season 2 offers the developers the chance to fix these unpleasant bugs.
