AnApex Legendsplayer shared a hilarious clip of them loading into an entirely empty lobby, an example of the wonky glitches currently found in Respawn’s battle royale. It’s not uncommon to run into significant, or even game-breaking glitches in major multiplayer games. Titles likeApex Legendsare so big and new content and changes are delivered so frequently that glitches are inevitably going to go live. An empty lobby is certainly a rare glitch to find, though.
To start a round inApex Legends, players queue up and wait for the match to begin. Unlike inFortniteand other battle royales, there’s no pre-match lobby used while the match starts up. After the match begins, players are placed in the game’s dropship as they wait to drop onto the map below. A prompt flashes on-screen showing how many players are still in the dropship that will decrease as other players drop. It’s an intuitive way of conveying information about whereApex Legendsplayers are dropping.

TheApex Legendsclipshared by Reddit user MasantZA captures an incredibly strange situation. The match loads like normal for the player, who has chosen Pathfinder to play as. Except, instead of the dropship for their match being filled with teammates and opponents, something has gone terribly wrong. The prompt on-screen reads “1 in Dropship” and MasantZA is still in the dropship. In other words, there’s no one else in the match with them.
There’s no further explanation for the situation shown in the video. TheApex Legendsplayer queued into the match normally, loaded into the game, and experienced the glitch. It appears to be a problem onRespawn Entertainment’s side of the equation, with the servers not handling player propagation for the match as intended. In other words, there’s no clear way to recreate this glitch. It’s entirely random.
This isn’t the first or onlymatchmaking issue inApex Legendsrecently. It’s certainly not the most severe. Frustrations over how matchmaking works inApex Legendseven prompted a detailed post from Respawn being shared this past week. The post also confirmed changes being rolled out to matchmaking region by region. It’s possible the ongoingApex Legendsmatchmaking issues are due to these changes and the bugs therein.
In positive news, MasantZA did confirm that they receivedRanked Pointsfor their match. It may even have set a record for the fastest win inApex Legendshistory. It’s a ridiculous glitch, but at the very least it’s entirely harmless. If only every glitch worked out this way. Still, Respawn will hopefully manage to improve the state ofApex Legendsmatchmaking in the future.
Apex Legendsis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and mobile devices.
