Several days ago, Capcom held its E3 2021 presentation, talking about the future of several of its major video game franchises. Of course,Resident Evilwas one of the franchises Capcom presented at the event, but it only discussedthe upcoming DLC forResident Evil Villageand the new release date ofRe: Verse. Among the many games that weren’t talked about at Capcom’s presentation is the rumored gameResident Evil: Outrage.

Several hours before Capcom’s presentation, new details were leaked aboutResident Evil: Outrage, which is why its absence at E3 2021 remains a mystery. Initially, many believed that the showcase for the game might happen at Nintendo’s E3 Direct, given thatResident Evil: Outrageis rumored to be a Switch exclusive. Resident Evil: Outrage May Not Release This Year

So what doesResident Evil: Outrage’sabsence at E3 2021 could mean? For starters, the game may not release this year, which is why Capcom decided not to feature it in the event. It is worth noting that whileResident Evil: Outrageremains unconfirmed, its existence was discovered afterthe massive Capcom leak last year, which revealed the timeline of several of Capcom’s upcoming projects. In the leak, it was alleged thatResident Evil: Outrageis slated to release in the Fall of 2021, just months afterResident Evil Village.

However, given thatResident Evil: Outrageremains unconfirmed, it is unlikely for the game to meet its late 2021 release date, especially since Capcom has to announce it first. Given thatthe studio never even mentioned any upcomingResident Evilgameapart from those already announced at E3 2021, the chances ofOutragereleasing this year are pretty much slim.

Of course, many things could explain why Capcom decided to delay the rumored game. During its E3 presentation, the studio announced that it is developinga DLC forResident Evil Village. The announcement’s wording implied that Capcom only thought about making a DLC due to popular demand after the game’s successful launch. Another reason that may have contributed to the decision to postponeOutrage’sannouncement is the impact of the ongoing pandemic, making it difficult for game developers to work on new IPs.

What Rumors Are Saying About Resident Evil: Outrage

Just hours before Capcom’s E3 presentation, new rumored details aboutResident Evil: Outragesurfaced online. According to the website Biohazardcast, a one-hour-long playtest took place last year titled “Investigation.” It was reported that= Resident Evil: Outragestars Rebecca Chambers, who last appeared in a video game inResident Evil Zeroand 2002’s remake ofResident Evil. The playtest reportedly takes place in a university where Rebecca is researching a new virus.

As it turns out, the students and professors in the university have all been infected with the new virus and show high levels of rage, explaining the game’sOutragesubtitle. It is worth noting that the playtest didn’t describe the infected as flesh-eating zombies. Rather, they show similar behavior asthe Majini fromResident Evil 5, or if one is to go beyond the franchise, the infected in the film28 Days Later.

Additionally, it has been reported thatResident Evil: Outragewill see the return of the third-person perspective and is being developed on the RE Engine. Given that the Capcom leak last year claims thatResident Evil: Outragewill be released in the Fall of 2021, many believed that Capcom is going to announce the game at E3 2021. However, with its absence at the event, it is likely that it won’t be releasing this year unless Capcom holds another event post-E3 that would talk about the games missing from its presentation, such asResident Evil: Outrageandthe rumored remake ofResident Evil 4.
