TheAssassin’s Creedfranchise has always had a knack for the strange and supernatural, and that has never been more true than in recent entries. What started with the Isu civilization and world-ending catastrophes has evolved into ancient mythology merging with reality to create a narrative that is ambitious as it is somewhat convoluted.Assassin’s Creed Miragelooks to continue that legacy by following Basim, one of the antagonists ofAssassin’s Creed Valhalla, as he rises through the ranks ofthe Assassin Brotherhood in 9th century Baghdad.

Players learned that Basim is closely linked to the Isu inValhalla, as he is the reincarnation of the Norse god Loki, who himself is actually an Isu just as Minerva and Juno were in previous entries.Assassin’s Creed Miragewill likely tackle Basim’s complicated past throughout its narrative, but there’s room for the game to introduce other members of the franchise with a supernatural background. Instead of operating in a vacuum,Assassin’s Creed Mirageshould haveAssassin’s Creed Odysseyprotagonist Kassandra appear as a way to anchor the last few years ofAssassin’s Creedstorytelling.

How Kassandra Could Appear In Assassin’s Creed Mirage

Introduced inAC Odyssey,Kassandra is a mercenary-somewhat-turned-assassinwho lived during the Peloponnesian War in Ancient Greece. Throughout her adventures, she encountered various significant historical figures, including the philosopher Socrates and historian Herodotus. Perhaps the most important person Kassandra met on her travels, however, was the mathematician Pythagoras. In their meeting, it’s revealed that Pythagoras is Kassandra’s biological father, and his life had been extended by the Staff of Hermes. He eventually bestows this Piece of Eden to Kassandra, granting her immortality.

With this immortality, Kassandra spends hundreds of years searching the globe for other Pieces of Eden. Toward the end ofOdyssey’s modern-day story, Kassandra relinquishes the Staff of Hermes to Layla Hassan, bringing the Misthios' life and centuries of adventuring to an end. InAC Valhalla, however, Ubisoft decided it wasn’t done telling stories with Kassandra. In the Fated Encounter DLC,Eivor crosses paths with Kassandraas the latter assassin is searching for an Apple of Eden. This crossover opened up countless possibilities for Kassandra to appear in futureACtitles, andMirageis ripe with opportunities.

AC Miragetakes place a few decades before the events of Valhalla, but for Kassandra, her adventure has been going on for hundreds of years. While she shouldn’t distract from Basim’s narrative, she could serve as a brief side character who either guides Basim or comes into conflict with him. Whatever the case may be, she could groundMirage’s story with the rest ofAC’s overarching narrative and create a common thread through the franchise. How Kassandra changes fromMirageto when we see her inValhallacould also further contextualize how much Basim changes between both entries.

Assassin’s Creed Mirageis taking a lot of risks with its gameplay and storytelling approach. After many years of 100-plus hour action-RPG experiences,Ubisoft is takingACback to its roots. While longtime fans will likely appreciate this return to social stealth and a more focused story, there may be some challenges in satisfying fans who have enjoyedAC’s more recent efforts. Kassandra could bridge the gap between both eras of theACfranchise, allowing Basim to spearhead this return to form, while the charming mercenary serves as a reminder of Ubisoft’s more recent reinvention of the series.

Assassin’s Creed Miragereleases October 5 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
