World of Warcraftis known for many things, but the design, scope, and scale of its many terrifying villains is near the top of the list. Aptly-named Redditor Sculpt_Clay has created a magnificent rendition of one of their favoriteWorld of Warcraftbosses, the Old God, C’Thun.
C’Thun is perhaps one of the most legendary and memorable ofWorld of Warcraftbosses. It was the final encounter of the penultimate raid in vanillaWoW, The Temple of Ahn’qiraj. To access the heart of the eldritch abomination’s lair deep within the bug-infested wasteland of Silithus, players across the server had to work together to open the Gates of Ahn’qiraj–an event lauded to this day as one of themost fun and successful world events inWarcraft. It is no surprise fans like Sculpt_Clay seek to immortalize the monster with their work.

The sculpture itself is, like C’Thun itself, out of this world. Sculpt_Clay hand-cast the statue from polymer clay. At first glance, one could easily mistake their handiwork as a digital render, as many fans of Sculpt_Clay’s work had done. The hand-crafted statue of theWoWraid legendis very much real, from its many eyes to its many tentacles.
Amazingly, this isn’t the first ofWarcraft’sLovecraftian abominations Sculpt_Clay has created. Earlier this year, they showed off a sculpture of thousand-mawed Yogg-Saron, the second Old God faced by players who appeared in theWrath of the Lich Kingexpansion. Sculpt_Clay used resin to create the pool of water this eldritch abomination rests within, perfectly replicating its appearance as it was within the titanic prison of Ulduar.
Needless to say, these sculptures are of incredible quality–better even than official figures released by Blizzard. Fans ofWorld of Warcraft, especially of the eldritch Old Gods, immediately showered Sculpt_Clay with their praise. Some scoured the comments for eBay or Etsy links, hoping to get their hands on one of Sculpt_Clay’s magnificent renditions. Such unique, detailed sculptures could easily sell upwards of a thousand dollars, as proven by the price tag on theofficialDevil May Cry 5statue of Dante released by Prime 1 Studio. If Sculpt_Clay ever decides to sell their wondrous creations, there are no doubts they would be well-paid for their work.
World of Warcraftjust announced its newest content patch for theShadowlandsexpansion titled “Eternity’s End.”Players will have to see if the alien creatures and constructs from the realm of Zerith Mortis will compare toWoWstaples like C’Thun and Yogg-Saron enough to be immortalized by artists like Sculpt_Clay.
