While poking around theWrath of the Lich King ClassicPTR, some players discovered a new mount in their journals they had never seen before. The Nightmarish Emerald Drake is a green dragon featuring a dark red texture and glow unlike any othermount players have been able to collect inClassicor retailWoW. However, not long after it was discovered, this mysterious new mount was removed from theWorld of WarcraftPTR server.
The Nightmarish Emerald Drake did not have a source for how it would be obtained while it was on the PTR. Some players theorize that it could be a6 or 12-month subscription reward forWorld of Warcraft.Wrath of the Lich King Classicpreviously offered the Festering Emerald Drake, another new corrupted green dragon mount, through such a promotion, so it would not be a stretch for it to appear there. Either way, it seemsWorld of Warcraftis not ready to reveal what this mount is for just yet.
Many fans were intrigued to see this newEmerald Dream-themedWorld of Warcraftmountappear in game. Dragons corrupted by the Emerald Nightmare are enemies players have faced since VanillaWoW, so many players would be eager to get their hands on such a mount. These fans hope the mount returns to the game soon so they can collect it.
That said, some players are disappointed this mount is seemingly only available inWrath of the Lich King Classic. These fans think makingClassic-only rewards is counter-intuitive, and believe anything they can get in the throwbackWoWservers, they should be able to obtain in retail as well. Luckily, there is precedent for rewards like the newArfus pet to be obtainable on both versions ofWorld of Warcraft, so hopefully Blizzard will eventually add means to acquire these unique collectibles in the modern servers some day.
World of Warcraftis available now for PC.
