Summary

World of Warcraftis finally moving the Night Elf and Worgen refugees out of Stormwind in Patch 10.2, Guardians of the Dream. After five years, these displacedWorld of WarcraftNPCs are finally getting the chance to go home.

One of the inciting incidents of theBattle for Azerothexpansion in 2018 was the Burning of Teldrassil. During the attack, the Alliance city of Darnassus, and the Night Elf starting zone that surrounded it, were destroyed. Since Gilneas was lost at the end of their starting experience, many Worgen also lived in Darnassus, forcing them and their Night Elf allies to become refugees in Stormwind.

Now, it seems like the Night Elf and Worgen refugees are finally leaving Stormwind. In a recent build of theWorld of WarcraftPatch 10.2 Public Test Realm, the numerous Darnassian Refugees, Displaced Gilnean Refugees, and Stormwind City Clerks who help them have been removed from the city. This immigration is made possible due to the events of Guardians of the Dream, in which the Night Elves are hoping to make a new home at Amirdrassil.

Though having the refugees migrate to Stormwind initially made sense, many players have been asking forWorld of Warcraftto move them for years now. The Night Elves and Worgen both have safe places to live in both Kalimdor and the Broken Isles, especially afterBattle for AzerothandShadowlands. This became even more apparent duringWorld of Warcraft’s in-game timeskip, where the persistent refugees made it seem like no time had passed at all.

Needless to say, fans are rejoicing over this simple change. Not only does it make the world feel alive, but it also is a much-needed win for Alliance players–and especially Night Elf fans. The Kaldorei as a whole have been put through the wringer over the past few years, so most players are glad to see them finally get some relief inDragonflight.

Luckily, it seems likeWorld of Warcraft’s next update is going to be a big one for Night Elves. Not only does it take place within the Emerald Dream–a realm closely associated with their Druidic practice–but the story revolves around protecting their new home. While Fyrakk is dead set on stealing the power of Amirdrassil for himself, he is also the final boss of the new raid. If the fate of most other raid bosses, and aspell involving the Dragon Aspects ofWorld of Warcraftand Amirdrassil, are any indication, the Night Elves will hopefully be able to protect the new World Tree.
