Summary

AfterCaptain America: Brave New Worldset photos revealed his involvement,WWE superstar Seth Rollins has finally given his first comment on his role in the film and how the experience working on the Marvel Cinematic Universe project has been so far.

Debuting early on in the MCU with 2011’sCaptain America: The First Avenger, Steve Rogers was introduced to the world as a feeble patriot empowered with super soldier serum to fight for his country, only to be frozen in time at the end of World War II and rejoining the timeline in the modern day, becoming an Avenger in the process. Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson takes up the mantle following Rogers' retirement in Avengers: Endgame, andCaptain America 4will mark the former’s first solo film as the lead. While initially going by the subtitleNew World Order,Captain America 4’s title was recently changed, with the new title being made official via new set photos shared by Marvel Studios.

Similarly,Captain America 4set photos showed WWE’s Rollinsin May, revealing his involvement in the project he’d never mentioned being a part of. At a recent WWE x C4 event,ComicBookreports that the star finally broke his silence on the situation and his experience on the Marvel Studios project set. “I am sworn to secrecy. Pretty tight-lipped on anything related to this project,” Rollins mused. “Obviously the photographs have made their way online; nothing to be done about that, but it was a very good experience for me. I’m looking forward to seeing what the reaction is from everybody else who gets to get eyes on the project.”

While there aren’t any major details available concerning the character that Rollins plays inCaptain America 4, the costume he’s seen in on the set photos aren’t dissimilar to some of the ring attire he’s donned over the years. He also commented on an ongoing rivalry between him and his wife, fellow WWE superstar Becky Lynch, a former world champion whorelinquished her RAW Women’s title to Asukaafter announcing her pregnancy in 2020. “There’s always a healthy competitiveness in our marriage, we’re both top tier stars, top tier competitors. It’s very difficult for us to not be competitive,” he added. “She got to headline WrestleMania before I did, and I got to do this before her, so yeah, we’re always duking it out.”

The addition of Rollins, the latest in a long line of WWE superstars to make it into the film industry, toCaptain America 4is a plus for the film at a time when Marvel Studios movies seem to be losing some of the rabid fan support that characterized the earlier phases of the MCU. While his addition might not be enough to make up for the fact thatCaptain America 4probably won’t feature one big characterthat fans have been looking forward to, it’ll be interesting to see how well the star’s well-documented talent for playing a character like a villainous heel comes through on his big screen debut.

While all film and tv projects are likely to suffer delays due to the strikes being undertaken by the Writers Guild of America and the SAG-AFTRA union, the eventual release ofCaptain America: Brave New Worldmight benefit from the extended wait time, potentially giving fans some breathing room to work off some of the genre fatigue that seems to be plaguing a significant portion of fans. With a solid premise andrumors that Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man might return, the project might be a key stepping stone for Marvel Studios' return to prominence.

Captain America: Brave New Worldis scheduled for a theatrical release on July 26th, 2024.
