Zack Snyder continues to expand theRebel Moonuniverse long before theNetflixfranchise is released to the public. The director recently confirmed that the sci-fi epic will receive an elongated “adult” directors' cut in addition to the standard two-part film, a tradition Snyder is familiar with.Rebel Moonstars Sofia Boutella as Kora, a woman with a mysterious past sent to the galaxy’s edge to find warriors after a tyrant’s armies threaten society.Rebel Moonis described as a samurai drama inspired byStar Wars. Last year, it was revealed that theRebel Moonstory would be released on Netflixand be split into two movies.RELATED:Zack Snyder Rebel Moon Movie Getting Game Adaptation With “Ridiculous Scale” on NetflixAs excitement for the new adventure builds up, the Snyders have revealed that a directors' cut is in the works for both parts of theRebel Moonstory. The firstRebel Mooncut will explore the universe and adventures in a way that “everyone can enjoy and watch,” Zack Snyder recently mentioned in a first-look interview withVanity Fair. Meanwhile, the second cut will focus on adults,Snyder’s devoted super fans, and people ready to take a “deeper, harder dive” into the characters and theRebel Moonuniverse. So far, it is unclear if both versions will hit Netflix and theaters simultaneously and what each of their ratings will be.

The decision to splitRebel Mooninto two parts came as a tool to please the average streaming user that prefers a film of just under two hours, Deborah Snyder, co-producer and wife of Zack Snyder, said in the interview. In May 2023, it was confirmed that the first part of this franchise,Rebel Moon Part 1: The Child of Fire, will have a theatrical release alongside the streaming release. Netflix still has not confirmed if the film will hit theaters worldwide.

The filmmaking partners also released the first stills from the film, and with them, a first look at many of theRebel Mooncharacters.Among them are Sofia Boutella’s Kora, Ray Fisher’s Bloodaxe, Doona Bae’s Nemesis, Michiel Huisman’s Gunnar, and many more. The images show a variety of settings, from an extensive and bright wheat field to a pink and serene sunset and even a sweaty and dangerous battleground.

These types of surprises are almost a given for Snyder’s PR rollouts. The most notorious one was for DC’sJustice League, when fans pressured Warner Bros. and HBO Max to “release the Snyder cut,” a version of the controversial superhero movie with an impressive 4h runtime.Zack Snyder’s Justice Leaguewas critically and publicly praised, and though HBO Max never released the number of viewers engaged, it remains the only film to crash the platform’s server upon its release.

Rebel Moon: The Child of Firewill be released on Netflix and in theaters on June 17, 2025, with its second part following soon after but with no release date confirmed yet.
